TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES
COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING
Excel is the spreadsheet program of choice for Santa Cruz employers. The texts provide data files for either Excel 2003 or 2007; you can use either version you have available to complete the assignments. The Computer Technology Center, has both versions. Instructor created videos will demonstrate the 2007 version.Communication:
Blackboard will be used for communication. It is required that you log on the website at LEAST twice a week and participate in discussions and questions. It is also the site where you will complete the online quizzes. Lack of participation may result in being denied access to Blackboard.Homework:
College Accounting text:
Certain chapters in the College Accounting text will be discussed. Selected exercises and/or problems will be assigned and must be completed using Excel. Some will be revised to allow the use of special Excel functions. Be sure to make these revisions. Complete the assigned exercises/problems using an interactive spreadsheet. Submit your solutions via the Blackboard assignment tool. These must be completed using Excel (MS Works will NOT work. If you are using a Mac, be sure to save it so I can open it with a PC).
Excel text:
An Excel text is totally optional. They are available at online bookstores. You should complete as many of the exercises and application problems as you need to learn to use the program. Some of you have a great deal of experience with spreadsheets while others will have to spend more time learning the applications. Therefore, no specific exercises will be assigned or collected. The purpose is to LEARN to use the program. Please don't short change yourself by not completing as many exercises as you need to improve your knowledge of this exciting program. Any resource text can be used.
Quizzes:
There will be a quiz for each chapter covered in College Accounting.
These quizzes will be completed online via Blackboard. You will be
given a five-day "window of opportunity" to complete the quizzes
(12:01 a.m.Thursday through 11:59 p.m. Monday). There will be no make up
of a quiz so be sure to plan your schedule.
