CABT 118 Using Microsoft Windows (Vista)

Welcome to the website for CABT 118, Using Microsoft Windows. This class covers the fundamentals of using of the new Windows operating system, Vista. This course teaches file management, using the new Vista desktop and menus, using Windows programs, and basic security and troubleshooting.

This 8 week class starts February 13, and meets on Wednesdays, from 9:30-11:40 a.m., in Room 507.

I don't know much about computers--is this class right for me?

This class is designed for people who have little or no computer experience, or those who have used computers in the past, but still consider themselves beginners. Is There A Textbook?

The textbook for the course is Windows Vista, Brief Edition, by Faithe Wempen and Lisa A. Bucki. This book is published by Paradigm publishing. The ISBN for the text and accompanying CD is 978-0-76382-923-0. The text can be purchased from the Cabrillo College bookstore, or from EMC Paradigm at http://www.emcp.com. A copy will also be placed in the Aptos CTC for students to use while working in the lab.

Where is Room 507? Where is parking?

Room 507 is located on the ocean side of the 500 building. Parking is available for students in lots on upper campus (Lots G and I are closest). It is advised that you arrive early in order to secure a parking spot. Click for a map of the college.

About the Instructor

Calais Ingel is a tenured faculty member in the CABT department, and has been with Cabrillo College since 2000. Mrs. Ingel has a Master's Degree, as well as advanced training in technology issues. She specializes in teaching beginning technology students.
