CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY ONLINE
    ORIENTATION, Part 2

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:

1) EACH WEEK you will have a MODULE to work through, including:

a) LECTURE MATERIAL.  Written material will always be available; I will also sometimes include a podcast version of the lecture material.  Most modules will be divided into two parts: part one will typically be made available AFTER MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY, and part two will be made available AFTER MIDNIGHT ON WEDNESDAY. Links to supplementary material, including related webpages and video and audio clips online will also be included, as well as links to and descriptions of assignments.

, and in order to get information on and complete REQUIRED ASSIGNMENTS (including weekly discussion questions)--see below.

You will be held responsible for all lecture materials--but do ask if you don't understand something!  I have a QUESTIONS chat room (click on "Chat" in the sidebar) set up for this purpose, though you can e-mail me privately if you have a more personal question.

b) REQUIRED DISCUSSION QUESTIONS and INTERACTIVE EXERCISES marked in the modules with an pencil and paper icon: pencil and papers.  Most weeks, you will be required to submit from 2-4 discussion entries or responses to your peers; responses will typically be due by midnight Wednesday and by midnight Saturday. Responses to these questions will be tracked, and you will be given points for responding (300 points in total--participation is important in this course!!!). I would encourage you to discuss other class material with your classmates as well in the course chat rooms.  If you listen to a lecture via podcast, be sure you still visit the module to complete all required assignments.

c) REQUIRED VIDEO/AUDIO MATERIAL (accessed via the modules)  and REQUIRED READINGS.  Again, be sure to access each week's module in order to view required video/audeo material, and in order to download pdf materials, as necessary.  Readings will be assigned from your books, as well as from pdf files or files otherwise made available online.  Reading assignments will be identified within the weekly modules with this books icon: generic books, but you can also keep track of readings and major assignment due dates by viewing the COURSE SCHEDULE on the Course Content page (go ahead and check this out).  Optional readings will also be made available in some cases.

You will also be REQUIRED to complete 10 READING RESPONSES IN TOTAL over the course of the semester (10 points each, for a total of 100 points).  You will have MANY opportunities to do this (most weeks, you will have the option to complete 1 or 2 responses, if you wish--see the COURSE SCHEDULE), and you will NOT have to complete every set of reading response questions (just remember you need to complete 10 of them by the end of the term).

Our required texts can be purchased online (try comparison sites like pricegrabber.com for good prices), or purchased at the Cabrillo bookstore.  The required texts for the course are:
