Debate Requirements

Individual Report 15 pts: (10 pts for typed submission + (5pts for your group participation/attendance and performance to be determined along with Group Leader evaluation).

Individual Report – Due on Debate Date (see syllabus). (Must be typed, single or double space & spell checked, 1-3 pages).

Requirements:

1- State Topic/issue

2- Provide a summary/brief & reasoning of the “For” stand/position. (Incorporate research).

3- Provide a summary/brief & reasoning of the “Against” stand/position. (Incorporate research).

4- Provide support for your position (group position) on the issue. Support with legal/ethical arguments, research findings and analysis. Your Support must be comprehensive, detailed and has legal and/or ethical merit. (Incorporate research).

5- Opinion/reflection in relation to topic/issue, research, and findings.

6- Attach complete copies of sources. Three sources for each position, total of six sources minimum. Reference your paper.

Group Requirement

Group Debate Presentation 15 pts: (10pts earned for the oral group performance & teamwork in addressing the four stages of the debate) + 5pts earned from the average of judges’ evaluation).

Group Presentation Requirements

1- Group meetings/perpetration for the oral presentation (out of class).

2- Presentation of topic/position within the specified times given. (Refer to Debate Instructions form). Must be concise with support & reference to class subjects.

3- Integration of technology, media, visual aids, etc to illustrate your position.

4- Legal & ethical applications/implications must be integrated into the debate.

5- Group must reference and document at least ten (10) sources/articles/references for their side and five (5) for the counter argument (other side). Documents must be organized, highlighted, copied and placed in a folder. Must be submitted no later than one class meeting before the actual debate.
