This
is a draft of a hypothetical curriculum module.
It contains references to certain services (e.g., Information
Literacy mini-courses) not yet offered by the Library.
|
In doing
this exercise, you will create a basic Web page that links to resources
useful for a medical office intranet.
This exercise requires that you
- use
a basic Web page composing tool (e.g., Netscape Page Composer or equivalent)
- know
how to connect to the Internet
-
know how to do basic researching using electronic resources, and Internet
search engines
If you are unsure about any of these skills, talk with a librarian at
the Reference Desk, and/or sign up for the appropriate Library Information
Literacy mini-course(s) you need.

An
intranet is a computer network that is internal to an organization.
The main purpose of an intranet is to share Internet and computing resources
among employees. In this exercise, you will construct a Web page as
a prototype for an intranet homepage at a medical office.
- Start a Web page.
- Put your name and MY OFFICE INTRANET (or something similar) at
the top.
- Key in headings for the 10 categories listed in the table below.
- For each of the categories, search for and select Web sites.
- Most of the categories have some suggested sites, but you will
want to select additional ones.
- To get to a list of Web search engines, go to the Cabrillo
College Library homepage and click on Search
the Internet.
- You will want to select quality Internet resources for theWeb
page for your medical office intranet. Review Evaluating
Internet Resources (from University of Maryland).
The purpose is to gather together good Internet resources that are
handy to have readily available to those who work in your medical office.
If you need to review the basics of using a simple Web editor, refer
to Building a Web Page using Page Composer.
Follow the directions there to get comfortable with the mechanics
of starting a Web page, putting in links, and adding text.
If you are unsure as to how to use Internet search engines to do focused
searching, or are unsure about how to critically evaluate Internet
resources, ask a librarian at the Reference Desk for assistance, and/or
sign up for the appropriate Information Literacy mini-course offered
by the library.
Save your MY OFFICE INTRANET to disk and turn it into your instructor.
