Course description:

4 units

Class hours: 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory

The gross structure of the organ systems of the human body is covered through lecture, demonstrations and dissection. This course is planned for students entering the paramedical professions..

Transfer Credit: CSU; UC. Can BIOL 10.

Prerequisites:

Text:

Human Anatomy, 5 th. edition

Exams:

There will be four exams in lecture worth approximately 400 points total and three exams in lab worth approximately 326 points total. The exams will be non-cumulative. The lecture exam marks will be worth seventy percent of the course grade and the laboratory exam marks will be worth thirty percent of the course grade. The exams will be multiple choice fill in and identification.

Make up policy:

There are no make up exams in laboratory. If you miss one of the first three lecture exams, there will be one make up period for everyone at the end of the semester. If you have taken all of the exams except the final exam, and you have a grade of C or higher you are eligible for an incomplete. The incomplete must be made up within one year.

Cheating on any exam will result in an F course grade and expulsion from the class. Please turn off cell phones in both lecture and laboratory sections of the course.

Class hours of absence are considered excessive when they total more than the number of hours a full-term class meets during each week of a 16-week semester. Excessive absence from class as defined in the above paragraph will constitute reason for an instructor to drop a student from that class. However, it is the student’s responsibility to officially withdraw from classes by published deadlines to avoid failing grades.

All students with accomodations MUST identify themselves during the first week of class to receive those accomodations.

Grading policy:

Final grades will be based on a modified curve. The top number of points attained by the class will become 100 per cent. Credit/No Credit grades will not be given without special permission. No special projects are allowed.

 Grade

 A
90-100
B

 F
below 60

Biology 4A Human Anatomy Coordinated Studies:

Students in Biology 4 may need to take Biology 4A to gain one unit of extra credit in Human Anatomy. To take Biology 4A you must be concurrently enrolled in Biology 4. The course requires 3 hours of laboratory work per week and is an enrichment course in anatomy. The work expands on the subject area material for Human Anatomy through dissection laboratory or learning laboratory self-directed assignments.

There are no exams. The course is graded on a Credit/No Credit basis.
