Hawks season comes to end in Santa Rosa, lose best of 3 Super Regional 2-1..

The Hawks headed north this past weekend for a three game set with the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs. Cabrillo jumped to an early 1-0 series lead behind a fantastic complete game by Matthew Palozzo and big hits by Naz Thibodeaux and Scott Mercer. The final score was 2-1.

The Santa Rosa Bear Cubs bats came alive in game two as they were able to push across 13 runs on 19 hits. Cabrillo only managed 3 hits and the series headed to a third game with the momentum in the Bear Cubs favor.

The Hawks were able to plate the first run of the game in the second inning on another big hit by Naz Thibodeax. However, the Bear Cubs were able to score in the second as well and the game remained tied until the eighth inning when a one out double gave the Bear Cubs their second run. Facing a 2-1 defecit in the 9th inning, the Hawks were able to get runners on first and second with one out, but were unable to push across the tying run.

Hawks lose wild Game 2, 6-5 in 13 innings; battle back and win Game 3, 4-2 and advance to the Super Regionals for the 2nd straight year...

The Hawks were up 3-2 in the 8th with two outs and two strikes when the Sac City Panthers hit a bases clearing double to take a 5-3 lead. In the 9th the Hawks were able to fight back and plate two runs, the later coming on Mike Angulo's RBI single. The game went to extras and remained scoreless until the Panthers walked off on a RBI single through the left side by Nolan Ryan after a botched squeeze play.

In Game 2 of the double header the Hawks faced an early 1-0 deficit after the Panthers plated a run in the first. However, the Hawks were able to drive 4 across in the 3rd inning on some fortunate bounces and clutch hitting by Scott Mercer and Mike Angulo. That ended up being enough as the Sac City Panthers were only able to score once more in the 8th. Ryan Capozza was dominant in the series clincher throwing a complete game and advancing the Hawks to the Super Regionals.
