Coast Conference Champs #12 Cabrillo, open season next week in the East Bay, Tues 1/27 @ Los Medanos and Thurs 1/29 @ DVC...

The Hawks start their quest for an unprecedented 3rd straight Coast Conference title, Tues 1/27 at Los Medanos.  Returning 1st All Conference pitcher Ryan Capozza, will take the mound in the opener and newcomer Devon Loomis (transfer from Univ of San Francisco) will take the mound on Thursday 1/29 at Diablo Valley College.

The Hawks return many key players from last years conference champ and super regional team. Pitcher Matt Palazzo will make up the rest of the starting staff. Returners Andrew Dughi, Andy Morris and Ryan Stevenson return to to anchor the staff.  Matt Deane, a key pitcher on the 2013 conference champ and super regional team also returns to the back end of games.  Newcomers Kyle Cambron, Johhny Briedenthal, Thijs Teenwick and Johhny Carmona should be key members of the staff.

Lucas Hewitt and 1st teamer Matthew Valdez return from last years team, which has added many older and key players.  Mark Ortiz and JQ Folena (both starters from the 2013 champions) return from injury. Scott Akrop (San Jose St.) and frosh Zane Gelphman look to provide power in the middle of the lineup.  WIth the outfielders of Jake Raynaud, Luke Tokunaga and Daniel Gonzales, this position is stong.  Angel Sanchez will man 2nd base after playing in 2013 at Arizona West and newcomer Zane Gelphman looks to fullfill many roles.  The catching position will be manned by Houston Roberts, Mike Mine, and Chris Ortiz.

The Hawks have a daunting pre-conference schedule featuring perrenial powers Feather River, Delta, Marin and Sac City.  16 of the first 18 games will be on the road.

Hawks season comes to end in Santa Rosa, lose best of 3 Super Regional 2-1..

The Hawks headed north this past weekend for a three game set with the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs. Cabrillo jumped to an early 1-0 series lead behind a fantastic complete game by Matthew Palozzo and big hits by Naz Thibodeaux and Scott Mercer. The final score was 2-1.

The Santa Rosa Bear Cubs bats came alive in game two as they were able to push across 13 runs on 19 hits. Cabrillo only managed 3 hits and the series headed to a third game with the momentum in the Bear Cubs favor.

The Hawks were able to plate the first run of the game in the second inning on another big hit by Naz Thibodeax. However, the Bear Cubs were able to score in the second as well and the game remained tied until the eighth inning when a one out double gave the Bear Cubs their second run. Facing a 2-1 defecit in the 9th inning, the Hawks were able to get runners on first and second with one out, but were unable to push across the tying run.

The Hawks were up 3-2 in the 8th with two outs and two strikes when the Sac City Panthers hit a bases clearing double to take a 5-3 lead. In the 9th the Hawks were able to fight back and plate two runs, the later coming on Mike Angulo's RBI single. The game went to extras and remained scoreless until the Panthers walked off on a RBI single through the left side by Nolan Ryan after a botched squeeze play.

In Game 2 of the double header the Hawks faced an early 1-0 deficit after the Panthers plated a run in the first. However, the Hawks were able to drive 4 across in the 3rd inning on some fortunate bounces and clutch hitting by Scott Mercer and Mike Angulo. That ended up being enough as the Sac City Panthers were only able to score once more in the 8th. Ryan Capozza was dominant in the series clincher throwing a complete game and advancing the Hawks to the Super Regionals.
