Game
#1 - Seahawks Win Season Opener 75 - 72!
Cabrillo
survived 2 overtimes and late foul trouble to defeat Reedley
College 75-72 on Saturday night. Playing on the
road, the Seahawks (1-0) led 32-25 at halftime.
A late Reedley (0-2) surge evened things at 63 apiece
at the end of regulation. Then, the score was tied
at 68 after the 1st OT. Two late Free-throws by
Aaron Mayfield put the game away for Cabrillo in the 2nd
OT. Sophomore guard Jon Fontenberry led the Seahawks
with 14 points and Joe Atang added 12 in a game that saw
9 Cabrillo players score at least 5 points.

game. Fontenberry led all scorers with 20 points,

added 15 points.
Santa
Rosa (2-2) had jumped out to a 6 point lead at 73-67 with
2:47 remaining in overtime before Cabrillo's Mike Scott
took over. The sophomore forward beat his man and
powered the ball in for Cabrillo's first points of the
OT. Then, after the Seahawks forced a SRJC turnover,
he got the ball on the inside again, was fouled, and made
2 Free-Throws to pull Cabrillo within 2. On the
ensuing possession Scott made a key defensive play, blocking
a Santa Rosa shot attempt and sparking a fast break that
ended with Cabrillo getting fouled and making 1 free-throw
with 59 seconds remaining. A couple of posessions
with Santa Rosa still clinging on to a 1-point lead, 73-72,
a stifling Cabrillo defense forces a shot-clock violation
to set up the final play. With 6 seconds on the
clock, Cabrillo gets the ball to Fontenberry who brings
the ball the length of the court before getting a tough
shot from behind the arc to go in as the buzzer sounded!

was an action-packed game the whole way. After a
see-saw 1st half, Cabrillo was ahead 40-39. Then,
the Seahawks controlled the first 9 minutes of the 2nd
half, making 16-5 run to lead by 12. However, 9th-ranked
Santa Rosa fought back using their quickness and shooting
ability (9 3-pointers in the game) to take a 58-56 lead
with about 6 minutes to go. Cabrillo quickly regained
the lead and a putback by sophomore center Igor Fishbeyn
put the Seahawks ahead 67-64 with 16 seconds left.
However, Santa Rosa's Jerome hit his 4th 3-point shot
of the game to tie things up at 67, forcing OT.
