Seahawks Start Official Practice Monday October 15th......

The 2007-2008 Cabrillo College Men's Basketball team will begin official practice on Monday October 15th. The Seahawks, who won a share of the Coast Conference South Championship in 2006-2007 for the first time in school history, are ready to begin preparations for what will no doubt again be a very competitive Coast Conference South. The 2007-2008 version of the Seahawks will have plenty of experience back from last years team with five returning sophomores (four of which started) and two redshirts who would have played considerable minutes on last years championship team. Aaron Pearson and Dom Dunham return in the backcourt and were both Honorable mention All-Conference picks along with Chris Sharp at center, who was a Second team All-Conference selection.

Cabrillo opens the season on Friday Nov. 9th in Fremont, CA at the John Wallace Memorial Tournament (hosted by Ohlone College). They will open with Shasta College (Redding, CA) at 5:00 pm.

Cabrillo Basketball:

"Soaring to New Heights!"

When Head Coach Tony Marcopulos arrived at Cabrillo in March, 2000, he was taking the reigns of one of California's worst community college basketball programs.  In the seven seasons since then, Marcopulos has turned the once-downtrodden program into a perennial championship contender.  Under the guidance of Coach Marcopulos, the Seahawks' winning percentage has improved every season except one.  Over the past three seasons, the Seahawks have an overall record of 50-34, including 23-13 in Coast Conference play.  The program's recent success reached new heights this past season with 19 victories, a Coast Conference Championship, and several players earning all-league or all-state recognition... see below for more about the 2006-07 season.

Looking Back:  Highlights from the 2006-2007 Cabrillo Basketball Season

Most Victories in the Tony Marcopulos Era

2006-07 was another breakthrough season for the Cabrillo basketball program.  The Seahawks finished with 19 victories overall, the most in Coach Marcopulos' 7-year tenure.

With a 9-3 record in league games, including season sweeps of perennially strong rivals West Valley & San Jose City, the Seahawks were the 2007 Coast Conference Co-Champions!  It's the first men's basketball league championship in school history (since Cabrillo was founded in 1959).  Santa Cruz Sentinel Article
