SEAHAWKS HAVE NO ANSWER FOR CHABOT LOSE 81-63. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost tonight at Chabot College (Hayward) in the 1st round of the NorCal regionals 81-63. Cabrillo (20-8, 11-1) came out flat tonight and never really got anything going offensively as the Seahawks looked out of sync from the start. Chabot shot the ball extremely well in the first half connecting on 8 3 pt. baskets in the half. Chabot lead at halftime 48-29.

The second half was not much different as Cabrillo managed to cut the lead the 13 twice but never could get any closer as Chabot cruised to the 19 point win. Tyler Velasquez lead Cabrillo in scoring with 24 points.

Cabrillo finishes an outstanding season with a 3rd Coast Conference South Championship in the past 5 years

SEAHAWKS WILL TRAVEL TO CHABOT FOR NORCAL PLAYOFF OPENER

The Cabrillo College Seahawks have been seeded #11 in the field of 18 for the Northern California Regional playoff. Cabrillo will face the #6 seed Chabot College (Hayward) on Friday night in Hayward.

4 SEAHAWKS HONORED, DURAN NAMED CONFERENCE MVP. . . .

Cabrillo College sophomore guard Markus Duran was voted MVP of the Coast Conference South. Duran becomes only the second player in Cabrillo College history to be voted as MVP. Aaron Patterson won the award in 2007. Duran, 6'-175, averaged 19.8 points/gm. Shot 35% from the 3 pt. line and 85% from the free throw line. He lead the state the last two years in three point FG made for the season.

Sophomore center Bert Hall (6'5"-215) was selected to the 2nd team All-Coast Conference South. Hall averaged 10 points and nearly 8 rebounds/gm for the Seahawks. More impressively, Hall was one of the keys for the Seahawks defensively as Hall took 32 charges in 27 games.

Also honored, freshman point guard Tyler Velasquez and freshman forward Aaron Short were both named Honorable Mention.

 

Game 27 - Feb 16, 2011

SEAHAWKS CLINCH COAST CONFERENCE SOUTH TITLE OUTRIGHT WITH 90-65 WIN. .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won the Coast Conference South Championship tonight with a 90-65 win over West Valley College in Saratoga. Cabrillo (20-7, 11-1) jumped on the Vikings early and went up 15-3. West Valley made their own run and cut into the lead as the Seahawks lead at the half 35-31.

The second half was all Seahawks as they again jumped all over WVC behind the perimeter shooting of Markus Duran. Duran hit 10 3 pt. shots on the night 5 in each half. Cabrillo quickly extended their lead to 20+ and cruised the rest of the way for the win.

Markus Duran scored 34 points. Bert Hall scored 19 points and Tyler Velasquez had 17.

The Conference title is the third in the past 5 years for the Seahawks (06-07,07-08,10-11). The second outright title and the second time with an 11-1 record. The 3 Conference titles are the only men' basketball Conference Championships in school history (est.1959).

 

Game 26 - Feb 11, 2011

SEAHAWKS EARN A SHARE OF THE COAST CONFERENCE SOUTH TITLE. . . . .

The Cabrillo College SeahThe Cabrillo College Seaawks earned a share of the Coast Conference South title tonight with a 73-48 win over DeAnza College (Cupertino) in Aptos. Cabrillo (10-1, 19-7) got off to a slow start tonight but came alive late in the half to take a 33 -28 lead into the locker room. Cabrillo connected on 8 3 pt. baskets in the first half alone.

The second half was all Seahawks as they continued to shoot the ball well, hitting another 5 3 pt. baskets in route to the 25 point win. Cabrillo held DeAnza (13-12, 4-6) to only 20 points in the second half on 6 field goals.

Markus Duran lead the Seahawks in scoring with 19 points. Aaron Short scored 14. Darrell Espy and Daniel Johnston each scored 8.

The Seahwks travel to West Valley College (Saratoga) on Wednesday night. A win will give the Seahawks the Championship outright. Cabrillo has won the Coast Conference South Championship 3 of the last 5 years. The two they did not win the Seahawks came in second behind SJCC.

Game 25 - Feb 9, 2011

SEAHAWKS STUMBLE, SJCC ENDS CABRILLO'S 10 GAME WINNING STREAK . . . .

The Seahawks had their sights set on clinching the Coast Conference South Championship tonight at San Jose City College. SJCC (16-7, 8-2) was way too much for Cabrillo (18-7, 9-1)tonight as they ran away with an 88-61 win. SJCC jumped all over Cabrillo early connecting on 10 3 pt. baskets in the first half. Cabrillo hit 1 in the first half. Cabrillo was down at the half 53-25.

The Seahawks fought hard in the second but could never close the gap.

Markus Duran lead Cabrillo in scoring with 14 points. Tyler Velasquez chipped in with 10.

Game 24 - Feb 4, 2011

SEAHAWKS FIGHT OFF HARTNELL, WIN 69-63. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks travelled to Salinas tonight to take on the Hartnell Panthers and came away with an impressive 69-63 win. Cabrillo (18-6, 9-0) came out sluggish and found themselves down early 19-12. The Seahawks were in early foul trouble and continually put Hartnell at the line. Cabrillo made a late run in the half and did a much better job of keeping Hartnell (11-12, 5-3) off the stripe to erase the deficit and take a 3 point lead into the locker room 36-33.

In the second half the Seahawks came out and jumped on the Panthers behind the dribble penetration and passing of Tyler Velasquez. Soon the Seahawks enjoyed a 10 point lead that they continued to hold on to until a late Hartnell run tied the score at 63 with 1:37 to go. Cabrillo's Tyler Velasquez drove the lane and hit a 7 footer off the glass to make it 65-63. The Seahawks held on to win with some clutch freethrow shooting from Darrrell Espy and Aaron Short to close out the win.

Aaron Short led the Seahawks in scoring with 17 points. Markus Duran had 14 points. Bert Hall and Tyler Velasques each contributed with 12 a piece.

Game 23 - Feb 2, 2011

DURAN GOES FOR 38, SEAHAWKS BEAT MPC IN OVERTIME. . . .

The Seahawks survived tonight over Monterey Peninsula College 90-87 in overtime. Cabrillo (17-6, 8-0) was led by Markus Duran's 38 points (4 3 pt. baskets) 6 in the overtime. MPC (12-11,4-4) played exceptionally well down the stretch of this one to tie the game on a last second three point shot to tie the game at 82 at the end of regulation. Cabrillo enjoyed a 46-40 lead at the half.

MPC would not go away in the second as they quickly cut into the Seahawks lead as the remainder of the half was close throughout.

Markus Duran led all scorers with 38 points (12 of 13 from the free throw line). Bert Hall added 18 points and Tyler Velasquez chipped in with 12.

Seahawks put record on the line in two big games starting tonight....

The Seahawks enjoy a perfect 8-0 record and a two game lead over second place San Jose City College. But they face tough games at Hartnell (Salinas) tonight , and at San Jose City College next Wednesday night. If the Seahawks can win both of these game, they will have a least a Coast Conference Co-Championship this season. The next home game is Friday Feb 11th with tip-off time of 5 P.M.

CABRILLO STOPS GAVILAN 102-58. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won again tonight defeating Gavilan College (Gilroy) 102-58 to improve their record to 16-6 overall and 7-0 in the Coast Conference South. Gavilan (1-19, 0-7) was outmatched from the start and never challenged the Seahawks tonight. Cabrillo jumped out early and never looked back as Cabrillo lead at the half 49-21 connecting on 10 3 pt. baskets.

The second half was no different except that the Seahawks only connected on 7 3 pt. baskets for a total of 17 on the night.

Markus Duran and Aaron Short led all scorers with 18 points. Each hitting 5 3 pt. baskets on the night. Tyler Velasquez and Darrell Espy each had 12 points as every player on the roster scored at least 2 points.

Game 21 - Jan 21, 2011

CABRILLO DOMINATES WEST VALLEY 84-38 . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks started slowly this evening but erupted late in the first half behind the 3 pt. shooting of Darrell Espy. Espy made four consecutive deep 3 pt. shots over the West Valley (3-15, 1-4) zone late in the first half to open up a 36-16 lead that the Seahawks took into the locker room. Cabrillo (15-6, 6-0) jumped on the Vikings in the second half and quickly turned the 20 point lead into a 30+ point lead behind the 3 pt. shooting of Markus Duran and Darrell Espy's 3 additional 3 point baskets. The Seahawks made 19 3's on the night as they cruised to the 84-38 win.

Espy lead all scorers with 21 points on 7 3 point baskets. Steven McCloyn and Markus Duran chipped in with 11 each. Everyone that suited up for the Seahawks scored at least a point tonight.

Game 20 - Jan 19, 2011

SEAHAWKS MOVE TO 5-0 IN CONFERENCE WITH 71-58 WIN AT DEANZA. . . .

The Seahawks improved to 5-0 in Coast Conference South play and 14-6 overall with a 71-58 win at DeAnza College in Cupertino. DeAnza (11-8, 2-2) played the Seahawks tough throughout the night. The Dons went in at the half up 33-31.

The second half went back and forth as well. The Seahawks were tied at 53 with 3:49 to play and called timeout. Cabrillo then went on an impressive 18-5 run to end the game.

Markus Duran lead all scorers with 18 points on 4 3 pt. baskets. Aaron Short scored 17 points hitting 3 3 pt. baskets. Bertram Hall chipped in with 12 points.

Game 19 - Jan 14, 2011

SEAHAWKS IMPROVE TO 4-0 IN CONFERENCE WITH 76-65 WIN OVER SJCC . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks hosted the San Jose City College Jaguars this evening and came away with a 76-65 win. Cabrillo (13-6, 4-0) jumped on SJCC (11-6, 3-1) early and lead 22-5 behind Markus Duran's 16 first half points (4 3 pt. baskets). Cabrillo went in at the half up 40-27.

In the second, the Seahawks enjoyed a 20 point lead for most of the second untill SJCC made a late run with 3:00 to go to cut into the lead.

Markus Duran lead Cabrillo in scoring with 17 points. Bertram Hall had 15 points. Aaron Short scored 11. Darrell Espy and Travis Van Diest each had 8 respectively.

 

Game 18 - Jan 12, 2011

SEAHAWKS WIN AT HOME, 75-67 OVER HARTNELL. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their Coast Conference South record to 3-0 with a 75-67 win this evening in Aptos over Hartnell College (Salinas). Cabrillo (12-6, 3-0) jumped on the Panthers (7-10,1-1) in the first half hitting 8 3 pt. baskets and ran out to a 44-29 halftime advantage.

In the second, Cabrillo again came out quickly hitting two 3 pt. baskets and extended the lead to 20 points for most of the second half. Hartnell would not go away and made a late run to cut the lead to 10 with less than 2:00 minutes to go. Cabrillo fought off the run and held on to win.

Markus Duran led all scorers with 27 points on 9 3 pt. baskets. Trevor English had 11 points. Tyler Velasquez had 10. Aaron Short, Bert Hall and Daniel Johnston all chipped in with 8.

Game 17 - Jan 7, 2011

CABRILLO HANGS ON TO WIN AT MPC 83-82. . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks traveled this evening to Monterey and came home with a hard fought 83-82 win. Cabrillo (11-6, 2-0) opened up a 9 point lead in the first half only to let it slip away in the final minutes of the half and go in at the half down 2 42-40. MPC shot 19 free throws in the half converting 13.

The second half was back and forth most of the half with no team enjoying more than a 4 point lead until the Seahawks made a run to open a 6 point lead with 5 minutes to go. The Seahawks held on to win down the stretch.

Markus Duran lead the Seahawks in scoring with 24 points on 6 3 pt baskets. Bert Hall had 13. Trevor English scored 11. Aaron Short and Tyler Velasquez each had 10.

 

Game 16 - Jan 5, 2011

CABRILLO OPENS COAST CONFERENCE PLAY WITH CONVINCING WIN. . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks traveled to Gilroy tonight and came home with a 96-42 win over the Rams of Gavilan College. Cabrillo (10-6, 1-0) dominated throughout the first half hitting 6 3 pt. baskets and opening up a 48-23 lead at the half. The second half saw the Seahawks begin right were they finished hitting 4 more 3's in the first 3 minutes of the second half to widen the lead even more. Cabrillo ended up hitting 8 total three's in the half to finish with 14 for the game.

The Seahawks had very balanced scoring with five different players all scoring in double figures tonight. Aaron Short lead the Seahawks in scoring tonight with 18 points. Darrell Espy scored 15 points. Markus Duran had 14. Trevor English and Bert Hall each contributed with 11 each.

SEAHAWKS TAKE THIRD PLACE AT CHABOT TOURNAMENT

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved to 9-6 on the year with a 80-62 win over College of the Redwoods. Cabrillo lost to Las Positas College the night before 64-60 in a very hard fought game. In the tournament opener Cabrillo beat Merritt College (Oakland) to advance to the semi-final vs Las Positas.

The Seahawks now enter into Coast Conference South play and will travel to Gilroy to face Gavilan College on the 5th and then to Monterey to face Monterey Peninsula College on the 7th.

CABRILLO FALLS TO FOOTHILL 77-69..

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost tonight to Foothill College (Los Altos Hills) 77-69. Cabrillo (7-5) came out flat and found themselves down 47-33 at the half behind 11 3 pt baskets by the Owls. Cabrillo cut into the lead but could get no closer than 10 points.

Markus Duran lead Cabrillo in scoring with 21 points. Tyler Velasquez added 16 points and Bert Hall chipped in with 11.

Game 11 - Dec 17, 2010

SEAHAWKS LOSE SKYLINE REMATCH, 105-94 IN OVERTIME

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost this evening to Skyline College 105-94 in overtime in San Bruno. Cabrillo fell to 7-4 on the year while Skyline improved to 7-4 with the win. The Seahawks dominated the first half hitting 11 3 pt. baskets and went into the locker room up 53-37. The second half was a much different story as Skyline played much better and shot the ball much better hitting 8 3 pt. baskets themselves. Cabrillo found themselves down 5 with :56 to play when two missed free throws by Skyline an an Aaron Short 3 pt. basket cut the lead to two with :33 to go. Two more missed free throws gave the Seahawks an opportunity to tie on a Trevor English drive and finish with .03 to play. In overtime, Skyline jumped on the Seahawks and found themselves up 8 with 3:00 to play. Cabrillo fouled often but Skyline went 11-16 from the stripe to close out the game.

Markus Duran lead all scorers with 30 points. Tyler Velasquez added 23 and Aaron Short had 18 to go along with Trevor English who chipped in with 11.

Game 10 - Dec 12, 2010

SEAHAWKS BOUNCE BACK, BEAT SKYLINE 78-61

Cabrillo College improved their record to 7-3 with an impressive 78-61 win over Tournament host Skyline College for third place. Skyline (6-4) had lost the night before in overtime to eventual tournament champion Reedley College. Cabrillo got out to a fast start behind Markus Duran's 6 3 pt. baskets and held the lead 42-37 at the half. In the second, the Seahawks limited the Trojans to only 24 second half points.

Markus Duran lead the Seahawks in scoring with 25 points. Bert Hall added 14 and Tyler Velasquez chipped in with 12.

Oddly enough the Seahawks will be in action next Friday at Skyline College for a single game. Game time is 7:00pm.

CABRILLO LOSES IN OVERTIME 82-75

The Seahawks dropped a tough one tonight in overtime 82-75 to Las Positas College (Livermore)in the semi-final of the Skyline Tournament in San Bruno. Cabrillo (6-3) lead at the half 32-27 and held a 5 point lead down the stretch, but some costly turnovers made it difficult for the Seahawks to hold onto the lead.

Markus Duran and Tyler Velasquez lead the Seahawks in scoring with 24 and 23 points respectively.

Next the Seahawks will face host Skyline College for third place at 2pm.

Game 8 - Dec 10, 2010

SEAHAWKS TAKE IT TO MARIN 78-52. . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 6-2 on the year with a 78-52 win over Marin College in the first round of the Skyline College Tournament in San Bruno, CA. The Seahawks got off to a slow start this afternoon and lead by 11 at the half 39-28. Marin (0-9) shot the ball very well in the first half and made things interesting untill the 12:00 mark of the second as Markus Duran and Trevor English hit consecutive 3's to open the lead and the Seahawks never looked back.

Markus Duran lead all scorers with 21 points. Trevor English scored 15. Bertram Hall chipped in with 14 and Daniel Johnston had 7.

CABRILLO FALLS SHORT LOSES TO CANADA 75-73

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost tonight 75-73 in the Championship game of the 7th Annual Cabrillo College Classic. Cabrillo (5-2) could not get themselves going tonight and fell behind early by as much as 15 points in the first half. A late second half run cut the lead to 5 as the half time score was 32-27 Canada. The second half remained close as the Seahawks lead by 1 with :35 seconds to go but could not stop Canada down the stretch as the Colts held to win.

Markus Duran lead all scorers with 22 points on 3 3pt. baskets. Darrell Espy had 15 and Aaron Short had 12.

Game 6 - Dec 4, 2010

CABRILLO SURVIVES, BEATS PORTERVILLE 62-59

Cabrillo found a way to win tonight with a come from behind victory over Porterville College (Porterville, CA) 62-59 in the first round of the 7th Annual Cabrillo College Classic. Cabrillo (5-1) shot the ball poorly in the first half and was out played by Porterville (4-6). As a result, Porterville dominated the first half and went into the locker room up 32-19.

The second half was a much different story for the Seahawks as they came out and played with much more energy. Quickly, behind the 3 pt. shooting of Markus Duran, Cabrillo climbed back into the game. However, Porterville survived the run and settled down to again regain the lead. At the 4:37 mark Porterville had made a run of their own and lead by 9. The Seahawks then made another run and finally took their first lead of the game with 1:37 to go on a Darrell Espy free throw. Cabrillo held on to advance to the Championship game at 7:00pm.

The other bracket had Canada College (Redwood City)(7-0) victorious tonight over Butte College (Oroville, CA) (7-3).

Tomorrow the Seahawks will face the undefeated Colts from Canada College at 7:00pm. Butte will meet Porterville in the 5:00pm match -up.

Also listed are #9 Freshman Darrell Espy with 13.8 PPG and a game high of 24, #12 Freshman Tyler Velasquez 13.0 PPG and a game high of 21, #14 Freshman Aaron Short 12.4 PPG and a game high of 20, #16 Freshman Trevor English 12.0 PPG and a game high of 15. and #23 Sophomore Bert Hall 9.6 PPG and a game high of 16.

CABRILLO REBOUNDS BEATS OHLONE 68-52. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 4-1 on the year with 68-52 win this afternoon against Ohlone College (Fremont) (5-4). The Seahawks jumped on the Renegades early behind the 3pt shooting of Markus Duran. Duran made 6 3pt. baskets in the first half. Cabrillo made 14 3's as a team and lead 42-32 at the half. Cabrillo controlled the second half throughout and managed to break the game open with 8:36 to go. Cabrillo extended their lead to 21 and held on to win.

Markus Duran lead all scorers with 27 points on 8 3 pt. baskets. Trevor English chipped in with 11 points.

Next the Seahawks will host the 7th annual Cabrillo College Tournament. Cabrillo will open with Porterville College (Porterville) Friday night Dec. 3rd at 8:00pm. The 5:00pm game will showcase Butte College (Orovile) and Canada College (Redwood City) at 6:00pm.

 

Game 4 - Nov 12, 2010

CABRILLO CAN'T HANDLE CHABOT LOSE 70-65 . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks could not handle the Chabot Gladiators and lost a tough hard fought battle 70-65. The loss is the first of the season for the Seahawks as they drop to 3-1 on the season. Chabot moved to 4-0 with the win. The Seahawks went into the locker room tied at 37. In the second half, Chabot got out to a quick lead and held that lead for most of the half. Cabrillo made a late run and cut the lead down to 3 with :37 to go but could not tie the score. Cabrillo will face off with Ohlone College on Nov. 27th in Aptos. Game time will either be at 2pm or 7pm. The Cabrillo Volleyball team could possibly host a home play-off match and that match will determine the men's basketball tip-off time.

Game 3 - Nov 7, 2010

Cabrillo Beats Hartnell to Win the John Wallace Memorial Tournament @ Ohlone College 95-91. .
The Cabrillo College Men's Basketball team improved their record to 3-0 with a 95-91 win this afternoon over Hartnell College (Salinas) in the Championship game of the John Wallace Memorial Tournament Hosted by Ohlone College.
Hartnell (2-1) jumped all over the Seahawks early and went into the locker room with a 55-47 lead. In the second half the Seahawks pressure defense began to wear down the Panthers and force them into costly mistakes down the stretch. Cabrillo managed to take the lead for the first time in the game at the 10:00 minute mark and slowly built the lead to 9 with 1:46 remaining. Hartnell made a gutsy run at the end but it was not enough as Cabrillo went on to win the game 95-91.
Next the Seahawks will host Chabot College (Hayward) Friday Nov. 12th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm

Cabrillo advances with 108-82 victory over Cerritos College. . . .
The Cabrillo College Seahawks jumped all over Cerritos College (Norwalk) in the semi-finals of the John Wallace Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohlone College. Cabrillo (2-0) went on a 14-0 run to start the game and really never looked back as the Seahawks extended their lead and maintained it by as many as 27. Cerritos (1-1) cut into the lead several times but never got closer than 14 points. The win advances Cabrillo into the Championship game vs Hartnell College (Salinas) at 3:00pm. Hartnell (2-0) advanced with an impressive win over host Ohlone College.
Markus Duran led all scorers with 23 points converting 6 3 pt. baskets. Darrell Espy and Aaron Short both had 18. Trevor English had 15 and Tyler Velasquez had 14. Bert Hall was also outstanding with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Seahawks take it to Sac City 98-75. . . . . .
Cabrillo College opened the 2010-2011 season with a 98-75 win this afternoon over Sacramento City College in the first round of the John Wallace Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohlone College (Fremont). Cabrillo (1-0) jumped on the Panthers early hitting 10 3pt baskets in the first half. The Seahawks lead 51-40 at the half. Cabrillo jumped on Sac City (0-1) to start the half and extended their lead to as many as 28.
The Seahawks shot the ball from the 3pt arc well tonight converting 18 3pt baskets on the night. Markus Duran lead all scorers with 20 points on six 3 pointers. Trevor English and Tyler Velasquez scored 15 a piece each hitting 4 3 point shots. Darrell Espy had 13 points on 3 3 point baskets. Aaron Short and Daniel Johnston each pitched in with 10 a piece respectively.
Next the Seahawks will meet Cerritos College (Norwalk) at 7:00pm. Cerritos (1-0) beat Shasta College (Redding) (0-1) in their opener tonight.
