GAME 29 - Seahawks fall short at SRJC, great season ends.........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks saw their season come to an end tonight in Santa Rosa as the Seahawks lost in the round of 16 of CCCAA State Championships.

Cabrillo (20-9) could never get on track offensively in the first half and fell behind early as SRJC (26-5) took a commanding lead into the locker room. Cabrillo was 0-9 from 3 pt. range.

In the second half, the Seahawks managed to settle down a little and score the ball. However, the SRJC lead was too much for the Seahawks to overcome.

Colin Gruber lead Cabrillo in scoring with 11 points. CJ Grigg scored 7 points.

GAME 28 - Seahawks survive Contra Costa 65-57...

The Cabrillo College Seahawks advanced tonight with a 1st round win over Contra Costa College in Aptos 65-57. The Seahawks never trailed tonight and controlled the tempo as the Seahawks took a 33-28 lead in the locker room.

The second half was a grind it out type of game as Cabrillo slowly churned out a 10 pt. lead midway through the 2nd half. Contra Costa had plenty of fight in them as they cut the lead to four several times but could not over take the Seahawks.

Phoenix Bills lead the Seahawks in scoring with 14 points. CJ Grigg had 13 points. Dalton Noble scored 12 points and Jake Harrell had 11 points.

GAME 27 - Seahawks struggle, lose to WVC 66-63........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost a tough one tonight in Saratoga to West Valley College 66-63. The Seahawks ended Coast Conference South play with a 10-2 record and a third straight Championship. West Valley also completed Coast Conference South play tonight with a 9-3 record and sole possession of 2nd place.

Tonights matchup was a game of runs. In the first WVC enjoyed a seven point lead with 4:15 to play only to see the Seahawks go on a run of their own and tie the score at 35 at halftime.

The second half was back and forth early. Cabrillo held an eight point lead with 6:13 to play and a five point lead with 4:02 to go. WVC rallied to tie the game with 3:11 to go as both teams traded baskets. Cabrillo fouled on a late WVC 3 pt. attempt and followed that with a turnover to give WVC the win.

Colin Gruber lead Cabrillo in scoring with 17 points. Dalton Noble added 13 points.

Next, the Seahawks will wait on the CCCAA seeding committee to make their selections for the 18 team bracket for northern CA. The Seahawks will be informed as to where, when and whom on Monday (2-25-13) early afternoon.

GAME 26 - Seahawks come back beat MPC, win

Coast Conference South Championship outright 60-56.........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won a thriller tonight vs. Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey 60-56. The win earns the Seahawks a third straight Coast Conference South Championship and their fifth in the last seven years.

Cabrillo (19-7, 10-1) came out and played well early in the first half and took a lead mid way thru 24-16. That didn't last long as MPC rallied back. The Seahawks went into the locker room up one 30-29.

In the second half, MPC (8-17, 3-7) jumped on the Seahawks and went up 47-32 with 16:42 to go. Slowly the Seahawks began to crawl back into the lead as they found themselves down eight with 5:00 minutes to play.

After a Colin Gruber 3 pt. shot Cabrillo had tied the score at 51 with 2:38 to play. A DK White layup put the Seahawks up with 1:37 to go. The Seahawks then responded with a defensive stop and a Colin Gruber rebound followed by a tough Colin Gruber pull up from 9' to put the Seahawks up 58-54 with :25 to play. A quick basket by MPC cut the lead to two with :21 remaining. Cabrillo turned the ball over with :12 left. MPC missed a runner from 6' Dalton Noble got the rebound with :3.4 to go and made both free throws for the 60-56 win.

Colin Gruber lead all scorers with 24 points. DK White scored 13 points.

GAME 25 - Seahawks rally, beat Hartnell 70-57..

The Cabrillo College Seahawks rallied from a 10 point halftime deficit tonight to beat Hartnell College (8-13, 3-5) in Aptos 70-57. Cabrillo (18-7, 9-1) came out flat tonight and played poorly defensively as they gave up 35 first half points and found themselves down 35-25 at the half. Cabrillo actually played well offensively in the first half except for the poor shooting.

The second half did not start well as Hartnell jumped on the Seahawks and built their lead to 16 points early in the half 41-25.

The Seahawks then went on an impressive 17-0 run to take the lead 42-41 with 12:34 to play. After a Hartnell timeout, Cabrillo went on another 15-0 run to take a commanding 57-41 lead. The Seahawks cruised the rest of the way to seal the win.

GAME 24 - Cabrillo routs DeAnza 70-47......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks took to the road tonight for a tough contest against a hot DeAnza squad looking to tighten up the Coast Conference South race. The Seahawks were all business from the opening tip jumping out to quick 7-0 lead and never looked back. DeAnza kept the game close in the first half responding to every Cabrillo run. At the break Cabrillo led 33-27, the second half would see Cabrillo take control.

The Seahawks outscored DeAnza 37-20 for a final score of 70-47. The win was a total team effort with 4 Seahawks scoring in double figures led by Dalton Noble with 17, Phoenix Bills had 15 points, Colin Gruber added 13 and Jake Harrell chipped in with 10points. SEE ACTION SHOTS IN PHOTO GALLERY

Up next for Cabrillo is their final home contest of the regular season on Wednesday night at 7pm vs. Hartnell College.

GAME 23 - Cabrillo pounds Gavilan 54-31.......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won tonight 54-31 in Aptos over the Gavilan College Rams 54-31. The win moves the Seahawks to 7-1 in Coast Conference South play and 16-7 overall. Gavilan drops to 0-9 in conference and 3-17 overall. Early on this game looked like it might be interesting as the Seahawks struggled offensively. However, Cabrillo crashed the offensive boards hard and kept the Rams at bay. Cabrillo led at the half 28-20.

The second half was all Cabrillo as the Seahawks kept the Rams from scoring for the first 10 minutes and took a commanding lead. Gavilan could only score 11 points in the half.

GAME 22 - Seahawks slip past SJCC.........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks (15-7, 6-1) improved to 6-1 in the Coast Conference South with a 57-50 win over San Jose City College. Cabrillo jumped on the SJCC (14-8, 3-4) early as they took a 20-8 lead. SJCC closed the gap to 28-18 at the half.

In the second half, the Seahawks jumped out to leads of 14 twice but could not put away a very stubborn SJCC squad. The Seahawks struggled shooting the ball tonight as they went 10-37 from the 3 pt. arc. However, Cabrillo dominated the boards and made things very difficult for SJCC offensively as they could not find a way to attack the Seahawks stingy 2-3 zone.

GAME 21 - WVC too much for Seahawks 68-57..

The Cabrillo College Seahawks (14-7,5-1) saw their 19 game Coast Conference South winning streak come to an end tonight at the hands of West Valley College(14-8, 5-1) 68-57 in Aptos. The lose snaps the Seahawks current 6 game winning streak and now after the first round of Conference play the Seahawks find themselves in a first place tie with WVC at 5-1.

The first half was a 3 pt. shooting clinic by WVC Chris Murry. He connected on 6 first half 3 pt. baskets. Cabrillo was down at the half 35-27.

In the second half, Cabrillo could get themselves on track and continued to struggle. WVC extended their lead to as many 11 with 11:00 to go. Slowly the Seahawks began to get some good looks at the basket and cut the lead to 2 at 48-46 5:04 to play. It was all WVC after that as they out played and out hustled Cabrillo down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Phoenix Bills lead the Seahawks in scoring with 12 points. Colin Gruber and Dalton Noble each had 10 each.

Next, the Seahawks will face off with San Jose City College on Friday night Feb. 1st in Aptos at 7:00pm.

GAME 20 - Cabrillo sneaks by MPC 64-58........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks (14-6, 5-0) won tonight but it was not easy as Monterey Peninsula College (6-13, 1-3) pushed the Seahawks to the end. The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead 10-2 and then 15-6. MPC quickly went to work and cut into the lead and tied the score at 19 with 6:27 to go in the first half. The score went back and forth as no team enjoyed more than a three point lead. Cabrillo lead at the half 38-35.

The second half was much like the first as the Seahawks jumped on MPC quickly and went up 11 in the half. MPC refused to go away as they kept grinding away at the Seahawks. MPC was up 55-53 with 5:05 to go. Cabrillo went on a 6-0 run with a short bank shot by Colin Gruber and consecutive layups by Jake Harrell to put the Seahawks up 59-55 with 2:01 to go. MPC hit a big 3 pt. shot to cut the lead to 1 but the Seahawks made critical free throws down the stretch to hold off MPC 64-58.

Dalton Noble lead all scorers with 24 points on 5 3 pt. shots. Colin Gruber scored 20 points and Phoenix Bills chipped with 10.

GAME 19 - Cabrillo outlasts Hartnell, win 63-60...

The Cabrillo College Seahawks held on tonight to beat Hartnell College in Salinas 63-60. Cabrillo (13-6, 4-0) jumped out early on the Panthers tonight only to have Hartnell (8-9, 2-1) storm right back and tie the game at 19 with 6:13 to go in the half. Cabrillo went into the locker room up 31-28.

In the second, it was the Colin Gruber show as he scored 20 of his game high 24 points in the half. The Seahawks jumped all over Hartnell to begin the second as they extended their lead to as many as 12 midway thru. However, Hartnell would not go away and slowly kept creeping their way back into the game. The Seahawks managed to hold them off connecting on their free throw attempts down the stretch to win the game.

Colin Gruber lead all scorers with 24 points. Dalton Noble and Phoenix Bills scored 9 respectively. CJ Grigg and DK White each scored 8 as well.

Next, the Seahawks will take on Monterey Peninsula College on Wed. Jan. 23rd in Aptos. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.

GAME 18 - Seahawks Hold off DeAnza 66-54........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks held off a stubborn DeAnza squad tonight 66-54 in Aptos. Cabrillo (12-6, 3-0) controlled the game throughout but could never quite throw the knockout blow. Cabrillo connected on 6 3 pt. baskets in the first half and went in at the half up 30-21.

In the second, the Seahawks slowly exended their lead to as many as 18 behind the 3 pt. shooting of Dalton Noble. However, the Seahawks stalled offensively and DeAnza fought back with three consecutive 3's of their own to cut into the lead and make things more interesting. Dalton Noble was making things interesting for the Seahawks as he exploded for 20 second half points connecting on 3 more 3 pt. baskets along with his 8 for 9 free throw shooting. He alone made things difficult for the Dons (6-10, 1-2).

GAME 17 - Cabrillo Clobbers Gavilan 63-38 in Gilroy.........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks jumped all over the Gavilan College Rams (3-11, 0-2) tonight in Gilroy and never looked back. Cabrillo (11-6, 2-0) quickly went up 12-0 to start the game and went on to extend the lead. The Seahawks connected on 7 3pt. baskets in the half and took a 36-16 lead into the locker room at half.

The second half was much more of the same as Cabrillo quickly jumped on the Rams and extended their lead to as many as 30 points with just over 10:00 to play.

Colin Gruber led the Seahawks in scoring with 14 points. Jake Harrell scored 13 points and Dalton Noble had 11 points.

Next, the Seahawks will host DeAnza College (Cupertino) in Aptos. Game time is scheduled for 5:00pm.

GAME 16 - Cabrillo Starts Conference play with 74-61 win over SJCC..........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks took their show on the road tonight and came up with a 74-61 win at San Jose City College. The win broke SJCC (11-5, 0-1) eight game winning streak and got the Seahawks off to a positive start in the Coast Conference South race. Cabrillo (10-6, 1-0) came out slowly tonight and found themselves down 7-2 to start the game. However, the Seahawks seemed to settle down and manged to take control of the game as they went in at the half up 36-25.

In the second half, the Seahawks extended their lead to sixteen points but could not seem to put SJCC away. SJCC cut the lead to ten with 6:43 to go but could get no closer.

Dalton Noble lead the Seahawks in scoring with 22 points. Colin Gruber added 16 points and Phoenix Bills added 10. Jake Harrell chipped in with 9.

Next, the Seahawks will travel to Gilroy and take on the Gavilan College Rams on Friday night Jan. 11th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.

GAME 15 - Seahawks step up and beat MJC 66-46..

The Cabrillo College Seahawks got the new year off to a good start tonight with an impressive 66-46 win over Modesto Junior College in Aptos. The win improves the Seahawks to 9-6 on the year as they enter Coast Conference South play next week. The loss drops MJC to 8-6 as they enter Big 8 Conference play as well.

Cabrillo and MJC came out of flat and both teams struggled to score as the game was tied at 9 with 11:30 to in the first half. Cabrillo went on a 29-2 run to close out the half and take a stunning 38-12 lead in at the half. MJC did not score a point until there was :48 seconds to go in the half.

In the second half MJC came out and made several runs at the Seahawks but could never cut into the lead enough to ever really threaten the lead the Seahawks had built in the first half.

Next, as mentioned earlier, the Seahawks now enter into Coast Conference South play next week. Cabrillo will travel to San Jose City College Wed. Jan. 9th and stay on the road Fri. the 11th as they will travel to Gilroy and take on Gavilan College. Both games start at 7:00pm

GAME 14 - CCSF has no trouble with Cabrillo......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks lost this evening to City College of San Francisco 82-51 in Aptos. The loss drops the Seahawks to 8-6 on the year. CCSF improves to 15-0 on the year and might very well be the best team in the state.

The Seahawks made a game out of it early but midway thru the first half CCSF converted on consecutive 3's and then on consecutive Cabrillo turnovers for layups to take a lead that they would take into the locker room at the half 44-26.

The second was really no different as CCSF was never really threatened as they rode their lead and extended it for an 82-51 win.

Next, the Seahawks will take on Modesto Junior College on Thursday Jan. 3rd at 6:00 pm in Aptos.

GAME 13 - Foothill too much for Seahawks......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks came up short tonight to the Foothill College Owls 55-42 in Aptos. Cabrillo (8-5) came out and jumped all over the Owls (12-2) 10-2. Shortly thereafter it was all Foothill as Cabrillo turned the ball over 11 times in  the first half. Foothill lead at the half 33-20.

In the second half, Foothill returned the favor and jumped all over Cabrillo to start and extended their lead to as many as 18 points 40-22. However, the Seahawks fought their way back and closed the gap to 5pts 40-35 with 8:00 minutes to play. Both teams struggled to score for the next 3 plus minutes. The Seahawks during that period of play turned the ball over on five consecutive possessions as Foothill capitalized and took back control of the game for good as they cruised the rest of the way for the 55-42 victory.

Phoenix Bills lead the Seahawks in scoring with 11 points. CJ Grigg added 9 points.

GAME 12 - Cabrillo stops Chabot 56-48........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won tonight 56-48 over Chabot College (Hayward) in Aptos. The win improves the Seahawks record to 8-4 in the year. The loss for Chabot drops them to 5-6 on the year.

Cabrillo struggled tonight from the 3 pt. line. In the first half the Seahawks went 0-12 but still managed to be tied at half 17-17.

In the second half, the Seahawks managed to knock down 5 3pt. shots and extended a lead to 12 pts. 35-23. Cabrillo continued to play outstanding defense and closed the game out as they connected on 19-25 free throw attempts.

Colin Gruber lead the Seahawks in scoring with 21 points. Phoenix Bills and Cody Love each chipped in with 9.

Next, the Seahawks will host Foothill College (Los Altos Hills) on Friday night Dec. 21st in Aptos. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm. 

GAME 11 - Seahawks Fall Short vs West Valley.....

The Cabrillo College Seahawks (7-4) lost this afternoon to West Valley College (7-3) 48-46 in the Championship game of the Skyline College Tournament. The Seahawks went in at the half up 23-17 in what was something similair to a college basketball game but not quite.

The second half saw WVC play much better offensively and defensively as they chipped away at the half time lead and took a lead of there own with about 6:00 minutes to go. Cabrillo fought hard down the stretch but could not close the gap as WVC held on for the win.

Next, the Seahawks will play Chabot College (Hayward) on Friday night Dec. 14th at 7:00pm in Aptos.

GAME 10 - Cabrillo handles Las Positas

Cabrillo used a big 2nd half to blow past Las Positas College and will play in the Championship game of the Skyline tournament at 4pm on Sunday. After taking a 39-37 lead at halftime, the Seahawks clamped down defensively holding Las Positas to 29 points in the 2nd half. While doing so Cabrillo managed to put up 45 points of their own to finish with an 84-66 victory.

Once again Colin Gruber led all scorers with 32 points, Phoenix Bills added 14 points and CJ Grigg chipped in with 12. The win brings Cabrillo's record to 7-3, they will play West Valley at 4pm on Sunday for the tournament Championship.

GAME 9 - Cabrillo Improves to 6-3 with win over Marin...

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 6-3 with a 62-54 win in the first round of the Skyline Tournament over Marin College. After a slow start offensively in the first half (Cabrillo led 20-15 at the break), the Seahawks turned it up in the 2nd stanza and was able to hold off a late rally by Marin. Colin Gruber led all scorers with 31 points including 10 straight free throws down the stretch to close the game out.

Gruber's 31 paced all scorers, Phoenix Bills added 10 points and 3 assists and CJ Grigg added 7 points and 7 rebounds to the cause. Cabrillo will face Las Positas (winners over Gavilan College in the first round) at 5pm Saturday night.

GAME 8 - CABRILLO IMPROVES WITH 74-69 WIN OVER BUTTE. . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks made some progress tonight offensively as they put 74 points on the board in a 74-69 win over Butte College (Oroville, CA). The win improved Cabrillo's record to 5-3 on the year and dropped Butte's record to 4-4 on the season. Cabrillo's 74 points tonight is a single game high for the season.  The Seahawks were able to function much better and looked much more in sync offensively today. As a result, the Seahawks took a 38-32 lead in at the half.

The Seahawks extended their lead in the second to as much as 14 in the second and rode that lead for much of the second until Butte made a final run at the Seahawks that eventually fell short as Cabrillo shot well from the line to close out the game.

Colin Gruber led all scorers with 32 points. Phoenix Bills added 13 points and Da Karai White 11 points.

Next, the Seahawks will open up the first round of the Skyline College Tournament (San Bruno, CA) vs The College of Marin (Kentfield, CA) in Friday Dec. 7th at 4:00pm.

GAME 7 - SEAHAWKS DROP ONE TO SIERRA 53-47 . . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks came up short tonight to Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) 53-47. The loss drops the Seahawks to 4-3 on the year. Cabrillo struggled offensively all night but fortunetly played great defense holding Sierra to 17 first half points as the Seahawks lead at the half 19-17.

The second half saw both teams score the ball better but no team enjoyed a lead of more than 5. Cabrillo found themselves down 1 with 1:30 to play when Sierra hit big 3 pt. baskets down the stretch to hold off the Seahawks.

Colin Gruber lead the Seahawks in scoring with 15 points. Next, Cabrillo will square off with Butte College (Oroville, CA) on Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm. Sierra will play DeAnza College at Cabrillo on Sunday as well at 3:00pm.

GAME 6 - SEAHAWKS LOSE TO FOOTHILL 57-51. . . . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks dropped one this afternoon to Foothill College in the Championship game of the Shasta College tournament in Redding, CA. The loss moves the Seahawks record to 4-2 on the year. Cabrillo jumped on the Owls (5-1) quickly connecting on 5 3 pt. baskets to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room.

The second half saw Foothill close the lead quickly as both teams traded the lead for almost all of the half untill 1:30 mark when Foothill opened a 7 point lead and closed the game out connecting on their free throws down the stretch.

Colin Gruber lead the Seahawks in scoring with 14 points. Phoenix Bills and Warren Jackson each had 9 points respectively.

GAME 5 - CABRILLO Defeats Ohlone, Tournament Championship Game Next...

Dateline Saturday November 17th - The Seahawks improved to 4-1 on the season by downing Ohlone College (Fremont) in the Second Round of the Shasta College Tournament (Redding) by a score of 59-50. Next up is the Tournament Championship game against Foothill College (Los Altos Hills) at 4 P.M. November 18th. Go Seahawks!

GAME 4 - CABRILLO TAKES OUT MERRITT 64-58. . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 3-1 by defeating Merritt College in the first round on the Shasta College Tournament in Redding Ca. Colin Gruber led the Seahawks with 28 points and Phoenix Bills had 18. Cabrillo College will face Ohlone College (Fremont) in the second round of the tournament Saturday night at 7 PM.

GAME 3 - CABRILLO HANDLES DELTA 57-50. . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 2-1 with a 57-50 win over San Joaquin Delta College (1-2) in the 3rd place game of the John Wallace Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohlone College. The Seahawks came out sluggish this afternoon and shot the ball poorly in the first half. Fortunately, Cabrillo was outstanding defensively as they held SJDC to only 9 first half points and led at the half 20-9.

The second half was much more enjoyable to watch as both teams scored the ball a little better.

The Seahawks managed to hold on and win ugly to improve to 2-1.

Colin Gruber led all scorers with 14 points. Phoenix Bills and Dalton Noble had 11 points.

GAME 2 - CABRILLO LOSES TOUGH ONE TO SAC CITY 62-65. . .

The Cabrillo College Seahawks dropped a tough one tonight to Sacramento City College 62-65 in the semi-finals of the John Wallace Memorial Tournament hosted by Ohlone College in Fremont. Cabrillo (1-1)The Seahawks jumped on the Panthers early but Sac City shot the ball extremely well from the 3 pt line and had an 8 pt. lead at the half 43-35.

The Seahawks did not come out of the locker rooom very inspired and found themselves down by as many as 12 early in the second. Slowly, the Seahawks began chipping away at the lead and took the lead with 3:45 to go. Sac City fought back themselves and regained the lead with 1:34 to go. Cabrillo had several chances to tie the game and possibly win the game but could not convert down the stretch.

Colin Gruber lead all scorers with 30 points. Warren Jackson had 19 points.

GAME 1 - SEAHAWKS HANG ON, DEFEAT Feather River 56-55....

The Cabrillo College Seahawks opened the 2012-2013 season tonight with a 56-55 win in the first round of the John Wallace Tournament hosted by Ohlone College in Fremont. Cabrillo (1-0) jumped on FRC (0-1) to start the game 8-0 and extended that lead to 35-19 with 4:10 to go in the half. Cabrillo was 10-19 from the 3pt. line and lead at the half 38-28.

In the second half the Seahawks maintained a ten point lead but FRC just hung around within striking distance as they took a one point lead with 1:30 to go. Colin Gruber connected on a tough power layup to take the lead with a minute to go. Cabrillo had two chances to end the game at the free throw line but could not and FRC had two chances to win the game but could not convert.

Colin Gruber lead all scorers with 19 points. Phoenix Bills had 11. Dalton Noble had 9 and Cody Love and Warren Jackson chipped in with 8 each.
