NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL STATE

For only the 2nd time in the History of the Cabrillo College Men's Basketball Program, 2 Seahawks were named to the All State First Team as announced by the CCCMBCA over the weekend. Brett Reed, a 6'8 soph from The Woodlands,TX, will leave Cabrillo as one of the most decorated players to ever suit of for the Seahawks. The only 2 X 1st Team All State player in program history, Reed led the state in double double's the past 2 seasons, is the leading rebounder in school history, a 2 Time Coast South Conference Champ and a Conference MVP.

Linton Acliese, a 6'7 Freshman from Manville, TX, became only the 2nd true freshmen in program history to be named 1st Team All State AND Conference MVP (Reed was the 1st in 2015/16) in the same season. With averages of close to 20pts and 9rbs a game, Acliese helped lead Cabrillo to a Coast South Conference Championship and a spot in the State Playoffs. Acliese established himself as one of the premier post players in the state and should be a force to reckon with in 2016/17 for the Seahawks

LINTON ACLIESE NAMED CONFERENCE MVP

4 Seahawks were honored over the weekend by the Coast Conference South Coaches, Linton Acliese was named the Coast South Conference MVP after leading the Seahawks in scoring at 20pts (2nd in Conf.) a game, while also pulling down 8.3rbs (3rd in Conf.) a game, he led the Conf. in FG% and was 2nd in blocks as well. Acliese was joined by Brett Reed who was named to the All Conference 1st Team after leading the Conference in rebounding for the 2nd consecutive season. Reed averaged 12pts and 12rbs a game this season while dishing out almost 4asts a game. Tynan Velasquez was named 2nd Team after averaging over 14pts and 7asts a game this season for Cabrillo, he also led the conference in FT% and was top 3 in steals. Rounding things off for Cabrillo, Amenofis Mitchell was named Honorable Mention All Conference after averaging 12pts and 6rbs a game, while shooting over 35% from 3 and over 90% from the FT line. This is the 2nd consecutive year where 4 Seahawks have been honored, Acliese is the 7th consecutive Coast South MVP under Tony Marcopulos and 8th overall.

Game #28 - CABRILLO GIVES SAN FRANCISCO ALL IT CAN HANDLE..

The Seahawks were able to hang with the #1 ranked team in Northern California but came up short 61-65 to end their season in San Francisco at City College of San Francisco.

Game #27 - SEAHAWKS TRAVEL TO CONSUMNES RIVER...

The Seahawks traveled to Cosumnes River (Sacramento) for the first round on the playoffs and came away with the win by a score of 77-75. Next up, the Hawks will travel to #1 ranked San Francisco.

CABRILLO WINS COAST CONFERENCE CROWN!!!

Game #26 - CABRILLO BEATS SECOND PLACE DE ANZA....

The Cabrillo College Seahawks traveled to De Anza College to play the last conference game of the season. It was lose and share The Coast Conference South Title, or win and be The Champs!! The Cabrillo College Seahawks are the Champs winning by a score of 84-74 in Cupertino. It is the eighth time in the last eleven years that Cabrillo has won the Championship.

Game #25 - CABRILLO BESTS HARTNELL AT HOME....

Cabrillo continued to roll tonight at home versus Hartnell College by a score 76-63.

Game #24 - CABRILLO CONTINUES TO ROLL VS WEST VALLEY....

The Seahawks were able to continue their winning ways tonight vs. West Valley College to the tune of a 67-51 victory. Cabrillo jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead on the Vikings and never looked back. The first half was a defensive affair that saw the Seahawks limit West Valley to 19pts, taking a 28-19 lead into the break. As West valley opened up their scoring in the 2nd half, so did the Seahawks as the Seahawks lead remained double digits for the remainder of the contest. Cabrillo was led by Linton Acliese who scored 18pts on the night, Brett Reed finished with 13pts and Tynan Velasquez added 10. Tonight was another game that saw all 9 players who suited up for Cabrillo get into the scoring column. With the win it improves Cabrillo's record to 17-7 on the season and 9-1 in Conference play. Cabrillo can clinch at least a tie of the Conference Championship with a win over Hartnell College on Wednesday, 7pm at home in Aptos. Come help cheer on the Seahawks as they look to secure their 8th Conference title in the last 11 years.

Game #23 - SEAHAWKS TRAVEL AND DOMINATE RAMS.....

The Hawks traveled to 7th place Gavilan College (Gilroy) and dominated the Rams by scoring 74 points to the Rams 42. Freshman Linton Acleice lit up the Rams for 29 points in a rout that couldn't be stopped or slowed down, also featuring Sophomore Amenofis Mitchell adding 12 points on the night.

Game #22 - CABRILLO HAMMERS MPC.....

After a tough loss on the road to end last week, the Cabrillo College Men's Basketball Team was able to bounce back in convincing fashion vs. Monterey Peninsula tonight to the tune of a 85-55 victory. The Seahawks jumped on the Lobos early and often taking a 45-29 lead into halftime. The 2nd half saw much of the same as the Seahawks offense kept rolling and their defense continued to make life tough on MPC. The Seahawks were led by Linton Acliese who finished with 19 points, Brett Reed added 14, Bryan Lehman had 12 and Amenofis Mitchell chipped in 11 points for a Seahawk team who saw everyone suited up in action get in the score book. The win puts Cabrillo at 15-7 on the year, 7-1 in Conference play. Up next the Seahawks travel to Gavilan College in Gilroy on Wednesday for a 7pm tip-off.

Game #21 - SAN JOSE SLIPS PAST CABRILLO.....

San Jose City College held Cabrillo to it's second lowest point total of the season in winning at San Jose 55-53 tonight. Cabrillo still has an overall record of 14-7, and they are 6-1 in conference play with only five games to go.

Next up, Cabrillo will host Monterey Peninsula College on Friday Feb. 3rd. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. at home.

Game #20 - SEAHAWKS HANDLE DE ANZA AT HOME .......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks remained perfect in conference (6-0) with a 66-54 win in Aptos tonight.

Game #19 - SEAHAWKS BLOW OUT HARTNELL......

Cabrillo College blew out Hartnell in Salinas 70-57 to remain perfect in conference.

Game #18 - SEAHAWKS KNOCK OFF WVC 77-55 IN SARATOGA...........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks travelled to Saratoga tonight to take on the West Valley College Vikings. Cabrillo won 77-55 and only trailed 3-2 early on. After that it was all Seahawks as Cabrillo took a 44-26 advantage into the locker room largely due to the 3pt shooting of reserve guard Bryan Lehmann's 4 3 pt. baskets.

The second half was more of the same as the Seahawks never trailed by more than 15 points and lead by as many as 25 points at one point. The win improves the Seahawks to 12-6 overall and 4-0 in Coast Conference play. The loss drops WVC to 3-16 and 1-4 in the Coast Conference South division.

Linton Acliese led all scorers tonight with 27 points. Bryan Lehmann added 12 and Tristen Hodges chipped in with 9 points.

Next, the Seahawks will travel to Salinas to take on the Hartnell College Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.

 

GAME #17 - SEAHAWKS SOAR PAST GAVILAN 76-47......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won tonight 76-47 over the Gavilan College Rams. The win moves Cabrillo to 3-0 in Conference play and 11-6 overall. The loss drops Gavilan to 2-12 and 0-3 in Coast Conference play.

Tonight both teams got off to a very slow start offensively. Cabrillo shot the ball much better as Amenofis Mitchell connected on 3 3pt. baskets in the last 10 minutes of the half to give the Seahawks a bit of a cushion as they led 33-19 at the half.

The second half was all Cabrillo as they dominated the boards and controlled the tempo of the game throughout as they cruised to a 76-47 win in Aptos.

Amenofis Mitchell and Linton Acliese led the Seahawks with 17 points each tonight. Tynan Velasquez chipped in with 14 and Brett Reed added 13 . See story and photos at The Santa Cruz Sentinel web site , click here.

Game #16 - SEAHAWKS BEAT MPC 77-53 IN MONTEREY..........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks won tonight in Monterey 77-53 to improve their record to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in  the Coast Conference South Division. MPC drops to 5-13 and 1-2 in Conference play.

The Seahawks got off to a slow start tonight  offensively and MPC shot the ball exceedingly well from the 3pt. line connecting on 7 3pt. baskets in the first half. Cabrillo managed to take a four point lead into the locker room (33-29).

The second half was a bit different as the Seahawks held the Lobos to only two 3pt. baskets and only 7 field goals total.

Brett Reed led all scorers with 20 points tonight. Amenofis Mitchell and Linton Acliese both added 17 a piece. Tynan Velasquez chipped in with 12 points as well.

Game #15 - SEAHAWKS TAKE CARE OF SJCC 81-54 TO OPEN COAST CONFERENCE SOUTH DIVISION PLAY.....

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved to 9-6 on the year and 1-0 in Coast Conference South Div. play tonight with an impressive 81-54 win over San Jose City College in Aptos.

SJCC could not get themselves on track tonight and found themselves down 45-32 at the half.. The second really wasnt much different as Cabrillo held SJCC to only 22 second half points as Cabrillo cruised to a an 81-54 win.

Linton Acliese lead all scorers with 22 points. Brett Reed added 15 points and 14 rebounds. Tynan Velasquez chipped in with 14 points as well.

Game #14 - Cabrillo Drops Game With Foothill.....

Cabrillo lost tonight by a score of 64-68.

 

Game #13 - Cabrillo Earns Third Place at Delta.....

The Hawks took care of Sierra College 4-7 (Rocklin) today at 2 p.m. in the third place game at the San Joaquin Delta Tournament (Stockton). Sierra College upset Butte (Oroville) in the first round 67-60 and then lost to City College of San Francisco 87-97 in the second round. Cabrillo inproves their record to 8-5 in pre-conference play.

 

Game #12 - Hawks Loose to Host Delta at Tournement...

Cabrillo lost to tournament host San Joaquin Delta College 74-70 in the second round of play this evening.

 

Game #11 - Cabrillo Nearly Scores 100 at Delta Tournament......

Cabrillo kicked off the Delta Tournament in the first round by scoring 99 against Alameda's 76.

 

Game #10 - Seahawks Scare Top Ranked Team in the State......

Cabrillo traveled to the #1 state ranked San Francisco City College and gave them almost all they could handle. Though the final score of 61-80 was not close in the end, it did not portray what happened on the court for most of the evening. The Seahawks more than hung around with #1 and even took a 29-27 half time lead into the locker room. Even down to the last four minutes, the Seahawks where within five of winning the game. The top scorer for the Hawks was Brett Reed with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Linton Acliece also scored 18 and had six blocks for Cabrillo (6-4).

Next, Cabrillo will travel to Stockton for The San Joaquin Delta Tournament playing Alameda on Friday at 8 p.m.

Game #9 - Seahawks Take Care of Lassen...

Cabrillo had no problems taking on Lassen College (Susanville) in the final game of the Thirteenth Annual Cabrillo College Classic to improve their pre-conference record to 6-3. They took a 36-23 lead into the locker room at intermission and never looked back holding Lassen (6-4) to just 49 points in the game while scoring 69. Leading the Seahawks was Avery Edwards with 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Tanner Spence had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Game #8 - BUTTE GETS PAST CABRILLO AT CLASSIC 52-51..

The Cabrillo College Seahawks gave up a close game to visiting Butte College in the Thirteenth Cabrillo College Classic. The Hawks had trouble scoring baskets and getting good looks in the first half but did well at the free throw line to keep the game close as Butte put the Seahawks in double-bonus. Starting the second half down 24-26 to the Roadrunners, the game stayed close with a tied score of 40-40 with a little over 11 minutes to go. With just over 2:30 left the Hawks had built a small 51-45 lead. However, they did not score another point in the last 2:30 of the game despite several opportunities at the line. Meanwhile Butte continued their scoring and put in a lay-up that would be the winning basket with about 1.8 seconds remaining.

Game #7 - HAWKS TRAVEL TO LAS POSITAS............

The Cabrillo College Seahawks came up short in a tight game at #3 ranked Las Positas on Saturday. The loss by only three points (75-78) was a good showing for the young Cabrillo team. Next up Cabrillo will host their own 13th Annual Cabrillo Classic starting on Friday Dec. 2 when they face Butte College (Oroville) with a tip off of 7 pm.

Game #6 - SEAHAWKS HANG ON TO BEAT COS 76-73............

The Cabrillo College Seahawks improved their record to 5-1 with a 76-73 victory tonight over College of the Siskiyous (Weed, CA). The game tonight might be one of the most unlikely of events one could ever witness.

The Seahawks came out and jumped all over the Eagles 24-4 to start the game and continued throughout the half as the Seahawks played as well as they have played in this young season. As a result, Cabrillo dominated the first half and went into the locker room up 53-23.

The second was a complete turnaround as COS played outstanding as they completely dominated the second half connecting on 12 three point baskets and cut the 30 point lead to two with less than a minute to play. COS had several chances to tie the game both from the line and and on two separate possessions late in the game. COS showed tremendous pride and never gave up when it would have been easy to do so. They showed tremendous character with the way they came back.  Needless to say it was a very strange game to say the least.

Next the Seahawks travel to Livermore to take on the Las Positas Hawks. Game time is set for 5:00pm.

Game #5 - SEAHAWKS EARN CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP AT SHASTA TOURNAMENT......

The Hawks turned up the heat in their final game at The Shasta Tournament (Redding) by defeating the host Shasta Knights 80-68 in the Consolation Championship Final Sunday to up their record to 4-1. They will return home to host Siskiyous College on Wednesday the 23rd of November with a tip-off of 7 pm.

Game #4 - SEAHAWKS BOUNCE BACK, TAKE OUT SISKIYOUS AT SHASTA TOURNAMENT......

The Seahawks took care of The College of the Siskiyous (Weed, Ca.) in the consolation first round of The Shasta College Tournament by a very convincing score of 90-61. Next up will be the winner of the Merritt versus Shasta game Sunday at 12 pm.

Game #3 - SEAHAWKS DROP A GAME AT SHASTA TOURNAMENT......

The Seahawks are now 2-1 after suffering a loss to Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill) at The Shasta College Tournament in Redding by a score of 59-76. They are taking on the College of Siskiyous (Weed, Ca.) in the first round of the consolation bracket at 2 pm Saturday.

Game #2 - SEAHAWKS HANDLE SHASTA 86-69......

The Cabrillo College Seahawks beat the Shasta College Knights 86-69 to improve their record to 2-0 on the season. The Seahawks connected on 13 three point baskets and shot 25-31 from the free throw line on the night. Again Cabrillo had balanced scoring featuring Tristen Hodges' 7 three point baskets. Six in the first half.

Cabrillo enjoyed early leads in the first but could not pull away from the determined Shasta squad. Cabrillo lead at the half 47-40.

The Seahawks tightened their defense in the second half holding the Knights to 29 second half points. The Seahawks opened up several 18 point leads as they controlled the game on their way to the win.

Tristen Hodges lead all scorers with 23 points. Tynan Velasquez scored 15 points. Amenofis Mitchell had 14 points. Avery Edwards and Linton Acliese chipped in with 13 and 11 respectively.

Game #1 - SEAHAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH 83-62 WIN OVER REDWOODS.........

The Cabrillo College Seahawks opened the 2016-17 campaign tonight with an impressive 83-62 win in the second game of the Cabrillo Tip-off Tournament in Aptos, CA. Cabrillo (1-0) opened up a 15 lead midway thru the first half only to see Redwoods (0-1) fight back and close the gap 38-31 at halftime.

In what was a game of runs the Seahawks went on a 17-2 run to close the game out.

Linton Acliese led the Seahawks in scoring with 19 points. Tynan Velasquez and Tanner Spence both had 11 points. Brett Reed scored 10 and Amenofis Mitchell and Shaq Floyd each had 9 respectively to round out Cabrillo's balanced scoring attack.
