CABT 110A is a beginning keyboarding class covering the alphabet keys. It is designed for the student having little or no experience with typing or computer keyboarding. It is a self-paced class, having no regular class meetings. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 1.5 hours a week and complete at least one lesson a week using the computerized keyboarding programs. The minimum course performance goal is 25 words per minute (wam) with no more than 1 error per minute (epm).

Grades:

This class is offered on a Pass/NoPass basis. You can receive 1/2 unit if you pass the course, but your grade will not affect your grade point average.  All work must be turned in and timed writings completed before finals week.

An Incomplete grade can be assigned only if you have completed 75% of the course work to passing standards, and an illness or emergency prevents you from completing the assignment. To receive a Withdraw (W) grade, you must officially withdraw by the 12th week of the semester. You must turn in at least one assignment by week 12 or you may be dropped from the class.

To receive a Pass (P) for the course you need to:

  1. Complete Lessons 1-13 in Keyboarding Pro and related timed writings in MicroPace Pro. MicroPace Pro timed writings must be completed with one error per minute or less.
  2. Turn in progress reports as required (See the Progress Sheet handout). You will need to print out your progress report and drop it off at the Cabrillo College Computer Technology Center for your instructor, or you can attach the report to an e-mail for your instructor (cabt@cabrillo.edu).
  3. Take your final three timed writings, keying 25 words per minute (wpm) with no more than 1 error per minute (epm) on each of the three two-minute timed writings. You must take the final timed writings in the presence of your Instructor or Lab Instructional Assistant, in Cabrillo's Computer Technology Center.
