Keyboarding Pro software for Windows, from South-Western (Note: the software pictured is Keyboarding Pro Version 4. If you have an earlier version of this software, it will look slightly different.) Software does not work with Macintosh.
The textbook College Keyboarding Lessons 1 - 25 by VanHuss, Forde and Woo, published by South Western Educational Publishing/Thomson Learning (c. 2006) goes with the software (earlier versions of the software refer to earlier editions of the book).
CABT 110A students do not need to complete the "textbook keying" exercises in Keyboarding Pro; CABT 110B students should complete
all sections of Keyboarding Pro lessons. Students in both CABT 110A and 110B should complete MicroPace Pro timed writing exercises
listed on course syllabus.
Install Software
Follow instructions which came with your Keyboarding Pro software. This should be as simple as accessing your CD, double-clicking on the "setup.exe" icon, and following the prompts. If you accept the software's defaults, Keyboarding Pro will be installed on your computer's hard drive, and you will find a "Keyboarding Pro" folder inside your computer's "Program Files" folder. A shortcut will automatically be created on the desktop of your computer.
Log in to Keyboarding Pro
Double-click on the Keyboarding Pro icon on your desktop. When the program opens, click on the "new user" button (see below). You will only need to do this the first time.
The next time you open the software, you will simply click on your name and enter your password to continue working.

Enter your name; the class ID will show "no class assigned". Make up a password; make sure it is something you will easily remember, or else write it down.

Click on the "Next" button.

You can leave this part blank. Click "Next" again.

If you are working at home, you will leave the selection as "No Class Assigned". Click "Next".

Once you have clicked on "Finish", the program will open to the screen shown below:

Setting Preferences
Click on the "Edit" menu at the top of your screen. Choose "Preferences."

One space or two? The modern standard for proportional font is one space at the end of a sentence. Your software allows you to select one space or two spaces after end punctuation.
Please "un-check" the box next to "two spaces after end punctuation."
If you choose, you can also "un-check" the boxes for lesson audio and movie, and the new
version of Keyboarding Pro also lets you choose to hear the lesson audio in English or Spanish.

Disable your backspace key for these lessons. This will help you to learn good keyboarding habits. Click on each tab along the top of the "Preferences" window and disable (or "un-check") the backspace key for all sections except "Open Screen".
