Completing your work
Click on the "Timed Writings" button at the top of your screen. If you have already copied the timed writing files from the floppy disk you purchased from the Cabrillo computer lab during your orientation, you will see the list of timed writing exercises appear. Otherwise the list will be empty.
Check your progress sheet for the timed writing exercises you need to complete, and the proper length of timed writings:
- CABT 110A: 2 minutes
- CABT 110B: 3 minutes
- CABT 110C: 3 minutes, then 5 minutes
The list appears with "04A" at the top -- this is the first exercise to complete for CABT 110A. Select the timed writing you wish to complete, then click on "OK."
You will see a message telling you which page to turn to. Click "OK" again. Once you begin typing, the timer will start counting down. Do not hit the "Enter" key at the end of each line. The text will "wrap" automatically. You will only need to hit "Enter" at the end of a paragraph, or when you are creating a blank line between groups of text.
Spacing: Only one space after a period.
If you need to stop a timed writing you have just begun, you can press the [ESC] key. Results will not be recorded. When you finish the timed writing, a message will appear on the screen showing you your results. Make sure that you have completed the timed writing with 1 error per minute or less.
After clicking on "OK" you will see the exercise you just completed. Your errors will be marked in red. Look at the bottom of the screen as you click on the right-pointing arrow (bottom right) on your keyboard. Each error will be pointed to in turn, and the program will tell you what type of error it was.
To repeat the same timed writing, or to go on to the next one, simply click on the icon of the clock at the bottom right of your screen. Clicking on the icon that says "tasks" will bring you back to the MicroPace Pro starting screen.
