Activity 1

You work for a landscape contractor in this area. Your office has a new manager who just recently moved here from out of state. He wants to get familiar ASAP with speciality plants in this area, such as the Ben Lomond spineflower. He leaves you a note: "Please find me a good Web site for Santa Cruz plants, with pictures. Thnx."

YOUR SOLUTION
1.Go to the Cabrillo College Library homepage. The URL (Uniform Resource Locator -- Internet address) is http://libwww.cabrillo.edu
Don't know how to do this? To open a new URL, highlight the current URL at the top of your screen (where it says Go To, or Net Address, or Location) and type in the new URL. If you are at one of the Information Workstations in the library, click on HOME towards the top of the screen to get to the Library homepage.
2.Click on Internet Links
3.Click on Horticulture
4.Click on California Plants & Habitats (listed under Specific Aspects)

Activity 2

Your boss is interested in possibly going to the next Western Nursery and Garden Expo conference. Where and when is it going to be? "Check hortworld & let me know," she says on her way out.

YOUR SOLUTION
Many people know their favorite Web sites by their domain names. But, the domain name is not the whole address. Most Web addresses begin with http://www [http:// tells your brower to use hypertext transfer protocol; www stands for World Wide Web]. You guess that it's a commercial site she's referred to, so you add .com to the domain name. The complete URL you've constructed from her cryptic comment is http://www.hortworld.com. Open that URL. Explore the Web site and the information it offers. Notice that there is a Calendar link (over on right); click on that. To see where the Western Nursery and Garden Expo conference is mentioned on the Web page, use the Find command (Ctrl +F).
