The Dental Hygiene Program at Cabrillo College is offered in affiliation with the Dental School of the University of the Pacific. Classes begin each fall. Clinical experience includes patient care at the Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Clinic. An Associate in Science degree is awarded upon completion of the program. Graduates are then legible for clinical dental hygiene positions in dental offices, clinics and hospitals. Graduates may later continue their education towards the baccalaureate or masters degree level and enter teaching, public health or administrative areas. Demand for qualified dental hygienists is expected to continue to rise. Following the completion of the two-year program, the student takes an examination administered by the National Board Examiners. In order to become a Registered Dental Hygienist, the student must also take a clinical examination given by the California State Board of Dental Examiners.
