The goals of the Cabrillo College Dental hygiene Program are to prepare the student to:
Be a clinically competent and ethical dental hygienist;
Be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate effectively dental hygiene services essential to a total health care program for each patient;
Be an active participant and leader in community and professional activities by sharing knowledge and skills with the public and other dental hygienists;
Develop self-esteem, pride and satisfaction in her/his chosen profession;
Appreciate the need for continually acquiring new knowledge and skills throughout professional life to best serve your patients and your profession;
Continually strive towards the highest degree of professional ethics and conduct;
Demonstrate competence in educating the public on dental health both at the chairside and in the community level;
Identify and care for the needs of all patients regardless of medical conditions, physical or mental limitations or communication difficulties;
Apply scientific knowledge and skill in recognizing oral conditions and preventing disease. (2/2005)
