Future Dental Hygiene Students

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

"Future DH Students" are those who are high school graduates or anyone new to Cabrillo or developing an interest in health care and beginning to inquire about the a career in dental hygiene and the steps toward becoming a dental hygienist.

Future DH students who are ready to apply to the program or are interested in the field of dental hygiene at Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Program, are encouraged to attend the DH Informational Night each fall.

LICENSURE/CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS/NOLO CONTENDERE

 

The Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC) requires all applicants for the Registered Dental Hygienist Examination and Licensure divulge and explain any history of being convicted of, plead guilty, or plead nolo contendere to any criminal, offense, other than a minor traffic violation in any state, the United States, or a foreign country. Applicants must report any convictions or pleas of nolo contendere even if a subsequent order was issued which expunged or dismissed the criminal record.

Additionally, applicants must also divulge and explain the use of illegal controlled dangerous substances, provide the section of law violated, the nature and circumstances relating to the violation, the location and date of the violation, the penalty or disposition including a certified copy of the Judgment of conviction, and any evidence of rehabilitation.

Under the provisions of section 1203.4 of the Penal Code. Applications may be denied for knowingly falsifying an application pursuant to section 480(c) of the Business and Professions Code.

Criminal Convictions

Dental hygiene applicants for licensure who have or pled nolo contendere to any offense, misdemeanor, or felony in any state, region, country, under the provisions of penal code §1203.4, applicants must report any convictions or pleas of “nolo contendere” irrespective of a subsequent order that expunges the criminal record.  “Conviction” includes any infractions, misdemeanors, or felonies. Applicants that provide false information, when there is a previous conviction or plea, may have their application denied for knowingly falsifying the application pursuant to §480(c) of the business and professions code.

Applicants who have committed a felony should contact the Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC) dhccinfo@dca.ca.gov to determine their eligibility to take the state licensure examination before entering the program.
