Family Child Care Providers offer care for young children in their homes. There are over 400 licensed Family Child Care Providers in the Santa Cruz County Family Child Care Association and many providers who are nationally accredited.
The Early Childhood Education Department provides training and education for Family Child Care Providers by focusing on the unique needs of family childcare, as well as those of center-based care throughout the ECE curriculum.
ECE 171A-Z -- Issues for Family Day Care Providers, offers a series of courses designed for family childcare home providers to plan or revitalize their programs. Course content will vary with each offering, as will prerequisites. Topics may relate to: child development; environments; curriculum, partnerships with families; professional development.
Many of the Family Child Care Providers in Santa Cruz County have their AS Degrees or Certificates in Early Childhood Education from Cabrillo College. Many other Family Child Care Providers and people considering becoming providers regularly take courses in the ECE department.
The Child Development Resource Center offers regular workshops for Family Child Care Providers and those interested in becoming providers.
