There are several opportunities in the Early Childhood Education
Department for students to do their supervised student teaching.
Student teaching Practicum classes are offered in the Children's Center on the Aptos campus and at various community programs approved as Mentor Sites under the
supervision

|
of Mentor Teachers and ECE faculty. The Practicum
placement, whether at the Children's Center or at a Mentor Site requires that students have successfully completed ECE 31/131 Child Growth and Development. Additionally, students must concurrently enroll
(or have previously completed) ECE 51 - Principles of Working with Young
Children and ECE 53 - Introduction to Curriculum for the Young Child. |
Internships
Students who have completed a semester of student teaching or who have experience in the community and 10-12 ECE units are eligible to apply for teaching internship positions in the Cabrillo College Children’s Center. Internships last between one semester and two years. Interns participate in environment and curriculum planning and development; parent relations including home visits and parent conferences; staff meetings; and most other areas of the Children's Center program.
Most intern positions are for 6 hours per day and are paid an ourly wage . Interns also receive ECE credit while they are doing an internship. Internships are available working with children between the ages of six months and five years of age. Applications for internships are available in November and April.
