Pond Installation 2 This was an interesting site to say the least. Located right on Hiway 9 with a tremendous about of noise. Also right below some redwood trees and fairly narrow so it could not be very deep. Finally, being that this whole area was clear cut in the late 1800's one of the students suggested we use a flume to deliver the water to the pond like the loggers used to deliver the logs to the mill. I will post an image of the flume with the owner has completed it.
First order of business was to start making a retaining wall since we were going up instead of digging down. Laying out the site, staring to use some existing rocks for a retaining wall, we are building up instead of digging down
Moving some of the original rocks to make the walls Most of the wall is built, we managed to dig about 4" out of the bottom
Using the level to detemine the depth of the skimmer box
Rock is in, skimmer is placed and connected
Waiting for the pond to fill is like watching paint dry, anticipation...
Getting close, we put in an automatic fill valve on this one as we expect lots of splashing from the flume
Done, happy owner with his dog, happy class. Well done! Owner will build deck to the edge of the pond to make the appearance of an above ground pond.
