General Wait List Information

The Nursing Program currently admits 30 students every semester, in spring and fall. Cabrillo’s Nursing program has an Application/Selection Process that allows students to submit an application during the designated application period, once all prerequisites have been completed. Students who have received written notice of acceptance into our program will be added to our waitlist, in order, based on the certified mail postmark date of their application packet. We rigorously control the wait list based exclusively on your application postmark. Please note that the Nursing application process is changing. Details of the new process will be posted as soon as it is finalized.

In order to maintain your position on our wait list, every March all waitlisted students must submit an online Wait List Intent Form. Instructions and the link to the form will be posted on the website on March 2, 2015 and sent in an email. Failure to submit Wait List Intent Forms by the required due date will result in your removal from the wait list.

While on the wait list, maintaining accurate contact information is essential. It is extremely important that you notify the Nursing Program Office, in writing, of any changes to your mailing address, phone number, and email. Updating your information on your WebAdvisor profile does not update the Nursing database so please be sure to update both. To notify the Nursing Program you may follow this link Contact Info Update Form. Changes are also accepted by email to or via postal mail to Cabrillo College Nursing Program, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA,  95003. Contact info updates will not be accepted over the phone! If we are unable to reach you by phone, email or postal mail, you will be removed from the waitlist.

Given normal life events (moves, jobs, pregnancy, changes in priorities), not all of those on our waitlist will actually start our program. An average of 25% of the waitlisted students drop-off the list for various reasons. This allows others on the waitlist to move up the list. This is one of the most difficult variables of the waitlist to predict.

Given the number of students on the waitlist and the program’s experience with the variables inherent with such a waitlist, we estimate a wait of five-six years from the postmark date of application for those currently applying to the program. Your wait could be less than this, or more than this, given the many variables involved.

Notification of changes to the Wait List Notification process as of March, 2014

The Cabrillo Nursing Program wait list posting procedure has changed. All students on the Nursing wait list will now be notified of their current wait list number via an email sent to the address we have on file. The wait list notification and reply period has now closed for 2014. In order to maintain wait list positions, all wait listed students were required to submit the Wait List Intent Form online by Friday, March 21, 2014 at 4:00 PM. Wait list Intent Forms will be due again in March, 2015.

The length of the waitlist can fluctuate greatly over time, and should not deter committed students from pursuing their goals. Please check the Cabrillo Nursing Program web page regularly for information about how to use your time on the wait list productively. We post valuable information about professional certificates, educational opportunities, financial aid, program requirements and other information pertinent to students pursuing a career in health care. The web site is an invaluable link to our program and the health care education opportunities in our area.
