Basic firefighting skills and laws and regulations affecting the fire service. Provides the student with the knowledge and skills to safely perform, under minimal supervision, essential and advanced fire ground tasks, basic rescue operations, basic fire prevention and fire investigation tasks and to use, inspect, and maintain fire fighting and rescue equipment. Curriculum is intended to provide competent and comprehensive training in the field of Fire Technology as it relates to firefighters.
The student will be instructed in the proper use of standard fire department apparatus and equipment, evolutions with hose, ladders, ropes and knots, small tools and equipment, salvage covers, fire extinguishment techniques, etc., in accordance with the State Board of Fire Services. Manipulative skills demonstrated by the student must meet the standards established by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Santa Cruz County Fire Chiefs' Association. The course conforms to the standards for certification by the State Board of Fire Services and the California State Fire Marshal.
