Waitlist Statement
The Radiologic Technology program has an Application/Selection Process that allows students to submit an application once all prerequisites have been completed between April 30 and june 30. Those who submit a complete, qualified application packet (application form, transcripts, minumum physical and non-pysical standards, sent via certified mail) will be added to our waitlist, in order, based on the postmark date of their application packet. Students on the waitlist are guaranteed placement into the program when their waitlist position rises to the top portion of the list, without the need to re-apply.
While we can guarantee placement into the program, we cannot guarantee when students will start the program, given the variables of the waitlist. Each fall semester we admit 20 to 23 students, depending on the number of clinical spaces available. Our program currently has more students on the waitlist than space available in the program.
While on the waitlist, it is extremely important that you notify the Radiologic Technology Department, in writing, of any changes to your mailing address, email address, home or cell telephone and any other contact information. We periodically send requests to all applicants asking for confirmation of their intent to remain on the waitlist. We must receive your written confirmation or denial to remain on the waitlist. If we are unable to reach you by mail, email or telephone, you will be removed from the waitlist.
Waitlist Considerations:
- Many of our applicants apply to multiple programs (other radiologic technology programs, dental hygiene, nursing programs, transfer universities, etc.).
- Given normal life events (moves, jobs, pregnancy, changes in priorities), not all of the applicants on our waitlist actually start our program. This is one of the most difficult variables of the waitlist to predict.
- Given the number of applicants on the waitlist and the program’s experience with the variables inherent in such a waitlist, we estimate a wait of 3 to 4 years for those currently applying to the program. Of course, the wait could be less or more than this, given the many variables involved.
- Make good use of your wait time. Take our prerequisite courses first and make your application to our program. While you are on the waitlist, take your general education courses. This lets you concentrate on the RT courses during the two years you are in our program.
- Get related experience during your wait time. Investigate the Cabrillo College Medical Assisting program. They offer a variety of certificate programs which can be completed in as short as one semester. Consider related courses such as MA 170B, ALH 101 and SPAN 20A-Z . Spend some time working in the health field while you are on the waitlist.
- Investigate forgivable loans by local hospitals. Some of our clinical affiliates offer forgivable loans to employees who have worked for a qualifying period at the site and desire to continue their education if employees promise to return to the site following their graduation to work in the radiology department.
- A one-time one-year deferral is available at the program chair's decretion. Should you be unable to enter the program when we offer you a position, it is possible to defer your entrance for one year. If you are subsequently unable to enter the program in the following year, you will be removed from the waitlist.
We encourage qualified students to apply to our program. The length of the waitlist can fluctuate greatly over time and should not deter committed students from pursuing their goals.
