Interns and Volunteers

The Stroke and Disability Learning Center welcomes student interns and volunteers interested in learning about disability education, how to work with seniors and how to assist people living with functional loss and chronic health challenges.

Students planning careers in nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, human services, medical assisting and other occupations may come to learn and participate weekly in activities in the Center.

How to become an Intern/Volunteer

Interns and Volunteers must meet with the Stroke and Disability Learning Center director or a faculty member to discuss their interests and learning needs. Please call 831-477-3300 to make an appointment.

If accepted as Intern/Volunteer, you must complete an application form and get fingerprints at the Cabrillo College Sheriff’s office.

If you are enrolled in Cabrillo, you may earn college credit through the Cooperative Work Experience Education program.

You may participate in the Stroke and Disability Learning Center program as part of your classes in Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Human Services or other program.

If you are enrolled at UCSC, San Jose State University or another college, you may arrange to meet internship requirements through the Stroke and Disability Learning Center. Please call for an interview: 831-477-3300.

If you are not a student and are interested in volunteering, you may discuss your interests and skills with the Stroke Center faculty to determine what placement would be appropriate. You will need to fill out an application and get fingerprints at the Sheriff’s office.
