The Mission of Cabrillo College
For over three decades, the Stroke Center has provided a significant service to local residents by helping to fulfill the mission of Cabrillo College to " . . .[assist] all students in their quest for lifelong learning and success in an ever-changing world."
The purpose of the program is provide a rehabilitative environment that stimulates healing and wellness--assisting students in developing the highest potential level of their physical, emotional, and social capabilities, while, at the same time, learning to recognize and accept the life-adaptations required by their disabling condition.
The Center contributes to Cabrillo's commitment to serving those in the community who seek opportunities for life-long learning. Individuals with disabilities, especially seniors, constitute an important and growing segment of the community that wants and needs a vital and meaningful educational program to improve individual quality of life. As a result of these efforts, not only do individuals benefit from an improved quality of life, but also Cabrillo College's efforts have resulted in a demonstrable positive impact on the overall quality of life of the entire community.
The Center's purpose culminates when a student has been helped successfully to resume an active life with as much independence as he or she may desire, and as is possible within the limits of a particular disability.
