Students learn the four basic strokes that give one the freedom to create pictures of bamboo, flowers, animals and landscapes. Brush painting is a form of meditation. It takes several minutes to prepare the ink on the ink stone. This preparation helps the artist to become more and more relaxed.
It is not possible to do brush painting if your muscles are tense and cramped. The few strokes that are needed to put on paper must be reviewed in the mind. Complete focus is essential. Even students with directional hand palsy have been able to overcome the shaking and make good drawings.
