• The Climate Initiative Task Force thanks Ray Rider for procuring new advanced power strips to help reduce Cabrillo's electric bill and carbon footprint. As of January 2012, we have installed 377 of these new power strips in staff and faculty offices. Click here for more information: CITF

• The Cabrillo Sustainablility Council, Permaculture Club, Bicycle Cooperative and Outdoor Club joined forces to pass resolutions for both a plastic-bag ban and for a sustainable purchasing policy for the ICC and student senate to follow. Both the Inter-Club Council (ICC) and Student Senate passed the plastic-bag-ban resolution. The ICC and Student Senate also passed the sustainable purchasing policy resolution and approved a total of $3000 to spend on sustainable (compostable, biodegradable) food server ware to stock in the SAC East store room for all clubs to use. Thanks to Sonya, for being a driving force behind these initiatives!
• The Cabrillo Sustainablility Council has three winners from our poster contest! These prizewinners should be recieving their awards soon: Zach Morgan (1st), Kelly Keen (2nd) and Harbourne Norris (3rd). Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all who entered! Updated versions of the winning posters (and some honorable mention poster ideas) will be used to promote Cabrillo AlterNetRides Carpool Service.

• Nicola Wagner from the Permaculture Club will be speaking about Real Food at Cabrillo at the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (July 10 - 13, 2011, CSU Long Beach).
