Software Freedom Day eve celebration
Cabrillo GLUG holds meetings and installfests during Fall and Spring terms. Our first meeting of the Fall Term will be a Software Freedom Day eve celebration on Sept. 19. Huh? Software Freedom Day (Sept. 20 this year), which celebrates the "birthday" of the Linux kernel on Sept. 16, is usually held on the Saturday closest to the date. But we're going to go one further and celebrate on Software Freedom Day eve -- bring your Windows-using friends because we're going to have CDs with FOSS software for Windows as well as other Linux and FOSS trappings. This meeting, like our usual meetings, are held at the networking lab in room 2504 of the lower campus.
Installfests
Most, if not all, Cabrillo GLUG meetings consist of a half-hour of organizational business followed by an installfest. What's an installfest? For those of you who might not know what an Installfest is—an installfest is where people can bring their computers (laptops and desktops) to a meeting and members of Cabrillo GLUG will help them install whatver distro of GNU/Linux someone might want to try. Even if you don't want to "take the plunge" and install a new operating system on your computer, all are welcome to come by to try out versions of GNU/Linux that Cabrillo GLUG has available on LiveCDs -- CDs from which you can run the operating system but not install it on your computer.
