Mission
The Cabrillo College GNU/Linux Users Group (also known as Cabrillo GLUG) was formed during the Fall Term of 2007 to provide advice and assistance to students and staff seeking an alternative to operating system and software hegemony from the digital mandarins at Microsoft and Apple. Tired of Windows crashing (to say nothing of problems you might have with Vista)? Tired of your perfectly good Macintosh hardware being "obsolete" because you can't run the latest OS named after a predatory cat? You have an alternative -- a free operating system in hundreds of varieties called GNU/Linux.
Visit the new forum!
Cabrillo GLUG now has a forum in which you can get help for any GNU/Linux related problem (if we know the answer, that is), ask questions, discuss issues and just keep in touch with what's going on in the organization. To alleviate traffic on the e-mail list (for which you can sign up below, if you haven't already), we'll be placing meeting agendas and discussing GLUG issues there. To use the forum, you have to sign up, but it's instantaneous and you can start contributing right away.
Hats off to Fedora on May 23
In recognition of the latest Fedora release, Cabrillo GLUG will be hosting around this distro at its final installfest of the Spring Term at 6:30 p.m. in the Networking Lab, Room 2504, in the lower campus. The event is just one of the biweekly meetings and installfests that Cabrillo GLUG hosts, and we're still trying to decide where to meet over the summer (suggestions?). For more information, visit our Events and Meetings pages.
Project: Seahawk GNU/Linux

The Cabrillo College GNU/Linux Users Group has already put the college on the digital map by bringing Richard Stallman to Cabrillo and by forming the most active GNU/Linux users group in the area. So what do we do for an encore? Seahawk GNU/Linux, a distro developed by students, staff and the community at large. For more information, visit the Seahawk GNU/Linux page or contact Larry Cafiero at 831-335-7303 or send an e-mail to seahawkgnulinux@gmail.com.
Project: Converting/Networking Orchard School
Volunteers are sought to assist on a conversion to GNU/Linux of Orchard School, a K-6 school in Aptos, and subsequent networking. This is the first of several projects in the area's schools. Larry Cafiero and Christian Paasche are leading this effort. For more information or to volunteer, contact Larry Cafiero at larry.cafiero@gmail.com. You can sign up for our mailing list by sending an email to CGLUG-subscribe@cabrillo.edu.
