Early Childhood Education Instructor

Equivalency Requirements (whichever is applicable)

 

 

Example of Teaching Assignments

Teach a broad range of classes in Early Childhood Education (ECE) such as: Child Development, Curriculum for the Young Child, Infant/Toddler Development, Principles and Practices in Early Childhood Education, Parent/Child Communication and Problem Solving, Anti-Bias Curriculum, The Child with Special Needs, Child/Family/Community, and Working with Parents. 

Duties may also include development and direction of an area of the program such as the Children’s Center, the Infant/Toddler program, and the Foster Parent program.  Some assignments may include teaching ECE courses in Spanish.

Bilingual ability in Spanish-English.

 

State Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family consumer studies with a  specialization in child development/early childhood education, educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, OR

Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND

Master’s degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology. Bilingual education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR

the equivalent.

 

Equivalency Requirements

Equivalency to an academic degree shall include the same depth of knowledge in the discipline and breadth of general education that is required for the degree to meet the minimum qualifications.  Equivalent preparation for employment shall be considered under any one category or any combination of the categories listed below:

 

  • Degree in related field with equivalent course work in the required discipline as indicated by transcripts and/or thesis subject.

  • Equivalent degrees from foreign universities (as determined by an agency selected by Cabrillo College).

  • Course work at an accredited institution of higher education AND state-approved continuing education units applicable for maintaining licensure AND/OR an internship for licensure AND/OR equivalent professional or work experience AND/OR equivalent verifiable accomplishments of eminence in the discipline including but not limited to:  publications, research, seminars, creative works, professional performances or exhibitions, honors or awards.
