If you wish your donations to go directly to deserving
students, consider a gift to an existing scholarship fund, or establish
a scholarship fund to honor someone of your choice. A scholarship
gift is a tremendous help to Cabrillo students, who often must
combine college responsibilities with a very full work schedule.
Private donations to the Cabrillo College Foundation fund all
Cabrillo College scholarships. The Cabrillo College Foundation
establishes scholarship policies, and the Cabrillo Scholarship
Office coordinates the awards process. For the 2005-2006 academic
year, Cabrillo awarded 490 scholarships valued at over $275,000. Our
goal is to award at least $500 to every recipient. We award General
Scholarships, Campus Area
Scholarships, and Scholarships
for High School Seniors.
General Scholarships
General scholarships are offered to current Cabrillo students
who are enrolled in at least 9 units and have a 3.0 GPA or better.
Applications are available fall semester. Awards are announced
in December. Complete information is available at the Cabrillo
Scholarship Office.
Campus Area Scholarships
Campus Area Scholarships are awarded to students in specific
program areas such as art, nursing, computer science, or history.
Donors can work with the Cabrillo College Foundation staff to establish
the criteria for area scholarships that fulfill their intentions.
The selection of recipients is carried out by the academic departments.
Scholarships for High School
Seniors
Private donors have established special awards for outstanding
local high school seniors. Awards are advertised at surrounding
high school counseling offices. These scholarships illustrate the
various ways donors have chosen to fund a scholarship gift.
The families of Sol Alexander, Edith Fikes, and John T. and Ruth
Mallery endowed the Outstanding High School Seniors Scholarship.
Students receive $750 a year for the two years they attend
Cabrillo, and an additional $1,000 a year when they transfer to
a four-year institution.
The Leoni Scholarships, funded by the estate of Albert
Leoni, allow the foundation to annually award two-year
scholarships for first time Cabrillo students. During fall semester
each year, recipients receive a $500 stipend.
The Ow family has created the American Dream
Scholarships, which are awarded to ethnic minority high school
students in Santa Cruz County who will be attending Cabrillo. Each recipient receives $500. About twenty-five students are
selected each year.
