WHERE TO GIVE
WOMEN'S EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS (WES)
Our annual WES Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, September 30, 2016!
Cabrillo College has always provided special programs and services to help students reach their personal and career goals. In 1997, the Cabrillo College Foundation, inspired by Peggy Downes Baskin and Rachael Spencer, built on that success by instituting the Women’s Educational Success program.
Women’s Educational Success is a special financial aid program funded by private donations to the Cabrillo College Foundation. Women’s Educational Success was started with 100 founding members, each contributing $100 to establish an endowment for assisting Cabrillo College students. This endowment provides emergency cash grants for students with a strong commitment to succeed in college. As of December 2015, the WES Endowment has received gifts valuing $1,357,885. Since inception, 1,398 grants totaling $412,727 have been disbursed.
WES Grant Advisors, twenty Cabrillo College faculty members, counselors, and staff recommend WES grant recipients to the Cabrillo College Foundation. Typically the range of gift will be $100 - $750 per recipient. The WES grants are for immediate emergency needs of students. The WES grants are not for the expected expenses of starting school, but for unexpected expenses such as the replacement of a stolen schoolbook, materials needed for a class, or a bus pass. WES grants are awarded within 2 weeks of the request and can make the difference between staying in school and dropping out.
Over $63,000 in WES Grants will be awarded for the 2016-2017 academic year.
This year’s WES Luncheon will be on Friday, September 30, 2016, from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m., at the Environmental Horticulture Center on the Cabrillo College campus.
