What do you do?
As members of AGS, we work within the college and the community to broaden our understanding of the world, and to learn to access the resources we have around us. Our purpose is to foster, promote, maintain, and recognize academic excellence on the Cabrillo College campus and to perform services to the college and the community, emphasizing cultural, social, and enrichment experiences as a part of the total college experience.
What is required to be a member?
To be a member of the Gamma Phi chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma, you must submit a membership application, have at least 12 semester-units of college experience and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, pay $15 membership dues, and accumulate 30 activity points by the date listed on our calendar.
How do I benefit from being a member?
As a member of a service organization, you get to help the community you live in, acquire like-minded friends and have a lot of fun! You also get the benefit of having a AGS notation on your transcript (a valued mark for many transfer institutions), wear a gold honor cord at your graduation and win a scholarships and awards handed out at the end of each semester.
What does AGS stand for?
ALPHA stands for "Arete" meaning "Excellence"
GAMMA stands for "Gnosis" meaning "Knowledge"
SIGMA stands for "Sophrosyne" meaning "Wisdom"
These words being integral to the AGS motto: Add to good character, knowledge, and judgment.
