CYT Santa Cruz presents The Sound of Music with students ranging from 4 – 18 years of age. The Sound of Music was the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, and destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures everyone’s heart, including the stern Captain. When Austria is invaded by the Nazis, they demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.
This is CYT Santa Cruz's 11th production after beginning here in 2011. Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4 - 18. Originally founded in 1981 in San Diego, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation. There are affiliates across the country training thousands of students a year. CYT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization funded primarily through its tuition, ticket sales and outside contributions. CYT is dedicated to developing character in children and adults through training in the arts and by producing wholesome family entertainment, all of which reflect Judeo-Christian values.
