Press Releases Spring 2005 CONTACT: Cathy Summa, Director, Marketing & Communications February 2 , 2005 Love, Sax and Piano: A Music-Dance Valentine APTOS, CA - A group of Cabrillo College artists will be taking a second look at love in Love, Sax and Piano: A Music-Dance Valentine, on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 8 p.m. in the Cabrillo College Erica Schilling Forum (Room 450), 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos. Featuring the Wolford-Rosenblum Sax-Piano Duo, mezzo-soprano Linda Liebschutz, and the choreography of Rhonda Martyn, this performance will portray both the pangs and joys of love. Tickets are $16 for general admission, $13 for seniors, and $10 for students, and are available at the door, or in advance: (831) 479-6331. The first half of the performance is inspired by nineteenth-century attitudes toward love, featuring Robert Schumann’s lyrical Three Romances, selected duets by Schumann and love songs by Brahms. The music, the words, and the dance will trace love’s ups and downs, including anticipation, infatuation, ecstasies and betrayals. Rhonda Martyn’s choreography for David Maslanka’s Sonata for Sax and Piano, danced by Emily Era-McGarvey, Amber Proaps and Martyn, closes the first half with passion and intensity. The second half of the evening moves forward into the twentieth-century, both in music and attitude toward love. Featured are Libby Larsen’s vocal cycle Love After 1950; a group of sentimental songs by Charles Ives; and Donald Grantham’s Lascivious Love Songs. Closing the show on a romantic note is the ballad “With Every Breath I Take,” from the Broadway hit City of Angels, featuring choreography from Martyn and the dance talents of R.J. San Jose, Rowan Algoet and Martyn. For more information, please call Ivan Rosenblum at (831) 479-1968. ### | ||||||||||||||||
