Cabrillo Trustee Elected to Serve on State-wide Executive Board

APTOS, CA—Rebecca Garcia, Cabrillo College Trustee (Watsonville), has assumed the position of 2nd Vice President of the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) Board of Directors.  She has served on the CCCT board since 1999.  The CCCT is the statewide organization of the locally elected governing boards of California’s 72 community college districts.

Cabrillo College President Brian King extended his congratulations to Garcia. “Cabrillo is fortunate to be represented by someone as capable and dedicated as Rebecca at the state level,” he said.

Garcia is enthusiastic about serving another term on the CCCT Board.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to share my skills and knowledge as a trustee in the position of a state level officer. I will now have the opportunity to more closely work with the Board of Governors and the Board of Chief Executive Officers of California Community Colleges. My experiences at the local level with Cabrillo College will be an asset in this new role," said Garcia.

The CCCT and the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) are the two major organizations that make up the Community College League of California, sharing a common mission, staff and fiscal resources.

“Rebecca Garcia’s election as 2^nd Vice President by her peers is a recognition of her dedication, energy and forceful advocacy on behalf of all students serviced by our colleges,” said David Viar, Chief Executive Office of the Community College League of California.

The CCCT board meets six times each year to take action on education policy issues before the state Board of Governors and the legislature.
