Poetry Reading and Discussion to Honor Pablo Neruda APTOS, Translators Mark Eisner and William O’Daly will read from their work and lead a discussion. The Neruda Workshop writers will read poems written from the model and inspiration of Pablo Neruda. This event is the culmination of the workshop formed to honor the hundredth anniversary of Neruda’s birth. Chilean poet Pablo Neruda was an internationally admired poet and thinker, whose 50 books of poetry, theater, essays and memoirs have been translated into numerous languages and read and enjoyed by people all over the world. Mark Eisner is the editor of The Essential Neruda (City Lights, 2004) and one of the translators included in that book. His translations are also included in Ilan Stavans’ The Poetry of Pablo Neruda (Farrar, Strauss & Giroux, 2003). Eisner is active with Red Poppy, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the peace and compassion of Neruda the to the world through art. Their DVD Pablo Neruda Presente! is a concise, informative biography of the poet narrated by Isabel Allende. William O’Daly is the authorized translator of several of Neruda’s late and posthumously published works, published in the U.S. by Copper Canyon Press. Each volume has an informative critical introduction by O’Daly.
