Cabrillo College Welcomes New Vice President of Instruction

APTOS, CA— Cabrillo College welcomes Dr. Renee M. Kilmer as its new Vice President of Instruction. Dr. Kilmer started her new duties on July 11, replacing Claire M. Biancalana who retired in June.

            Kilmer is spending her first weeks getting to know the college and the community. "I am delighted and much honored to be selected as Cabrillo College’s new Vice President of Instruction. Cabrillo College is one of the best community colleges in the state and is renowned for its excellent faculty and staff, quality of academic programs, and beautiful location. I look forward to helping continue the college’s tradition of excellence," said Kilmer  

            “Dr. Kilmer brings with her a wealth of experience and talent,” says Cabrillo College President Brian King. “She has proven leadership skills, a tremendous commitment to student success and is dedicated to excellence, in the tradition of Cabrillo College,” continues King.

            Kilmer comes to Cabrillo College from Southwestern College in San Diego County, where she served as Dean of Languages and Humanities. Kilmer has worked in higher education, in teaching and administrative capacities, for 25 years.

            As a college administrator, Kilmer has served as the Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum for California State University, Sacramento; Director of the Intensive English program and Academic Director of the Education Abroad program at Josai University, Japan; Division Chair of English and Communication Studies at University of Maryland; and Dean of Languages and Humanities at Southwestern College.

            Kilmer holds a PhD from the University of California, Riverside, a master’s degree from California State University, Sacramento, and a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University. She also has a California Community College teaching credential in Languages and Literature and California State Certification in Teaching ESL. Her classroom experience includes teaching in the California Community College system, the California State University system, the University of California system, the University of Maryland system, a private university in Japan and a public university in China.
