Press Releases 2005 CONTACT: Cathy Summa, Director, Marketing & Communications September 16, 2005 Cabrillo College Stroke Center Will Hold an Open House APTOS, CA - The Cabrillo College Stroke and Acquired Disability Center will host an Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 501 Upper Park Road, on DeLaveaga Golf Course, in Santa Cruz. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about the program and services. The event is open to the public and is free of charge. The Cabrillo College Stroke Center is a highly successful rehabilitative education program for severely disabled students. The Stroke Center is unique in that it provides rehabilitative services based on an educational rather than a traditional medical model. The majority of students at the Center are over the age of 65 and all of them are challenged by a severe disabling condition. As senior citizens, they represent the fastest growing population segment in America, and as individuals with long-term health problems, they represent the first wave of patients to experience an American health care industry in crisis. The program is staffed by Cabrillo College instructors who are both medically licensed and educationally credentialed specialists in speech pathology and audiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and counseling. The staff is assisted by aides, student interns and a corps of volunteers. For more information about the open house call Stroke Center Director Debora Bone at 831-425-0622. ### | ||||||||||||||||
