LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GET AMERICAN DREAM SCHOLARSHIPS

Thirty-seven local high school students will each receive $500 American Dream Scholarships on May 19 to begin their lower division studies at Cabrillo College.

The scholarships are among those to be awarded at ceremonies next Friday afternoon at the college. The American Dream Scholarships, established by the Ow Family in 1985, aim to encourage ethic minority students who, among other criteria, have graduated from Cabrillo College District area high schools, have demonstrated leadership in their schools or community, have a grade point average of 2.0 and above, and have a desire to continue their education.

The American Dream, says George Ow, is “that you can come from humble beginnings and become anybody and anything that you work hard and smart enough at; and when you become…you shall assist others.”

Scholarship recipients are:

From Aptos High School: Heidi Marie Angulo, Moises Bejar, Enrique Castillo, Jessica Cellona, Lindsay Cellona, Brandon Damiani, Damian Diaz, Jeanette Fernandez, Martha Fernandez, Isidro Gabriel, Eric Gonzales, Clarissa Hernandez, Michael Louis II, Diana Olivares, Matthew Paz, Juan Pena, Elizabeth Reyna, Lladria Reyna, Jessica Rivas, Leandro Rocha, Lluliana Rodriguez, Giancarlo Thomae and Gina Vargas.
