Press Releases 2006 CONTACT: Mary Planding, Director, Marketing & Communications President Brian King Remains at Cabrillo College APTOS, CA—President Brian King announced today that he will remain as President and Superintendent of Cabrillo College. King, 43, had applied for the position of President at Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) in Springfield, Missouri. The OTC Board of Trustees announced late yesterday afternoon the appointment of Hal L. Higdon to the post of President. “OTC’s Board of Trustees had a challenging task. It was an honor to be one of the six finalists. I wish Hal Higdon and OTC the very best,” said King. “We are thrilled at the outcome. My phone has literally been ringing off the hook all day with community leaders and members calling to say how excited they are that Brian is staying. It is obvious he has the confidence of the community,” affirmed Rachel Spencer, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. King stated that the primary reason for considering the OTC opportunity was the health and well-being of both his and his wife’s parents. “We feel it is incumbent on us to take the best care we can of our parents. There are other alternatives to caring for them, such as bringing them here to live with us, and we are looking at all of them.” Dr. Rory O’Brien, President of Cabrillo’s Faculty Senate remarked, “On behalf of the faculty, we are delighted to have a continuity of leadership although we respected Dr. King’s reasons for applying for the position at OTC.” Cabrillo is one of the most outstanding community colleges in California and the United States, and serving as its president is the best job in the world. Thanks to the tremendous support my family and I have received from our community, faculty, staff and governing board, the last two years have been interesting, exciting and fulfilling. I look forward to Cabrillo’s fiftieth anniversary in 2009 and continuing to be a part of maintaining and building upon Cabrillo’s legacy of excellence,” King declared. # # # | ||||||||||||||||
