Press Releases 2006 CONTACT: Mary Planding, Director, Marketing & Communications Cabrillo Hosts Art Exhibition and Farewill Reception Friday, July 28 2006 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Cabrillo Gallery APTOS, CA— Cabrillo College’s Visual, Applied and Performing Arts (VAPA) division is hosting a farewell reception and exhibit on Friday, July 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Cabrillo Art Gallery, suite 1002, beneath the Main Library on the Aptos campus. The culmination of the first two-week session of the CabrilloArts Summer workshops, the exhibit will feature 115 works of art from the following workshops: Two-Dimensional Mixed Media, Encaustic Painting/Visual Thinking, Large Scale Ceramic Forms, Narrative Spoons: Forged and Fabricated with Found Parts, and Figure Painting. “These workshops are designed to bring together recognized artists in a variety of fields and the enormous community of artists and students in the Santa Cruz area,” says Dan Martinez, Dean of the VAPA division. Using a workshop format, the students work closely with presenters in an intensive, challenging and personal way along with using open lab hours to further deepen their learning experience. “We wanted to offer unique learning opportunities on advanced topics that would be exciting and valuable to our artistic community. From the sold out seats to the waiting list of students, we’ve succeeded. As a result, we will expand next year’s program accordingly,” remarked Martinez. The next workshops in the upcoming two-week session beginning July 31 (also sold out) are: Still Life in Ceramics, Illumination: Lighting Fabrication, Video as Art, Punching Up Your Metal Work with Chasing and Repousse, Painting from the Ground Up, Monotype Printmaking, and Bound in the Round: the 3-Dimensional Nature of Books. All workshops feature expert presenters who are well-known artists in their genre, many of whom chose to come to Cabrillo College for the opportunity to work with an eclectic and talented art community.
