Sculptor Robert Ortbal:  Oxygen’s Shadow

Artist Talk: Erica Schilling Forum, Room 456, Thursday, Sept. 28, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Artist Reception: Cabrillo Gallery, Thursday, Sept. 28, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

APTOS, CA—The Cabrillo Gallery announces its collaboration with San Francisco Bay Area artist, Robert Ortbal. Ortbal’s installation of sculptural objects opens with a free public reception on Thursday, September 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is preceded by his free artist’s talk beginning at 5:30 in room 456 of the Erica Schilling Forum.

Robert Ortbal makes sculpture that resembles biologic structures.  With ordinary materials found in most hardware stores combined with acrylic liquid mediums and colorants, Ortbal creates objects and installations that are both beautiful and intriguing.  As Art Nouveau artists embodied nature in all of its organic glory Ortbal is also influenced by nature, but by a more microscopic source.  Biotech enthusiasts will certainly be fascinated by his work and everyone will find visual pleasure in his objects which combine color, texture, movement and space in very unique combinations.
“I make objects and create installations to explore the distinct and interrelated worlds of natural phenomena and human nature. The process of regeneration is a theme I continually return to as I search for the hidden growth, within real and imagined spaces, that articulates psychological states of being,” states Ortbal.

The exhibition opens on Friday, September 29 and runs through November 3, 2006. The Cabrillo Gallery is open daily, Monday through Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and evenings on Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It is closed on weekends. The Cabrillo Gallery is located on the ground floor of Building 1000 on the Cabrillo College campus.
