Soquel Drive Closure at Cabrillo College
October 23, 2006 – November 22, 2006

 APTOS, CA - From Monday, October 23, 2006 through Wednesday, November 22, 2006, the far right-hand lane of westbound Soquel Drive will be closed in front of Cabrillo College, located at 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, to facilitate work on the Soquel Drive Frontage Improvement Plan in conjunction with ongoing construction at the College’s new Student Activities Center. Temporary concrete barriers will be erected for safety reasons and signage indicating the reduction from two lanes to one will be placed approximately 500 yards before the construction to alert drivers traveling westbound on Soquel Drive.

The work performed will include installation of the following:

1. Main stairway and two additional stairways to new Student Activities Center
2. New curb, gutter and sidewalk along building frontage
3. Two new street lights
4. Six new tree wells
5. One new fire hydrant and relocation of one existing fire hydrant
6. New storm drain, reset of one existing storm drain

               
Implementation of the Soquel Drive Frontage Improvement Plan and this lane closure are major steps toward the completion of the college’s new Student Activities Center scheduled for summer 2007.  The new Student Activities Center will include:

1. A significantly enlarged college bookstore
2. Office and meeting rooms for student government and clubs
3. Assessment testing and orientation classrooms for new students.
