APTOS, CA—This Friday, March 2 at 8:00 pm in the Erica Shilling Forum come listen to an eclectic collection of original music by Cabrillo College faculty James Durland and Michael Strunk performed by the Cabrillo Contemporary Music Ensemble. Net proceeds from the concert go to the college’s Music Department’s Scholarship Fund to assist continuing music students with their education at Cabrillo.

The ensemble includes the newest generation of music faculty members: Jon Nordgren on sax and clarinet, James Durland on piano and vocals, Michael Strunk on drums, Stephanie Gelman on flute and Cabrillo graduate and current Shoreline Junior High School music teacher, Caleb Murray, on bass, playing titles such as: Are We ½ Way There Yet, The Beginning Place, Samba Boy, Before Starting the Car, Always There, 1 AM, A Time Will Come, Chiricahua Sky Island, The Drive Home and many more.

The music crosses lines between serious modern classical music, contemporary jazz, pop, and Latin jazz and features complex composition with improvisation. “If rehearsals are any indication of the ensemble’s final performance, it promises to be a lively and thoroughly enjoyable evening of music,” declared Michele Rivard, Cabrillo College Music Department program chair. Durland exclaimed, “We're having a lot of fun playing together!”

Tickets are $12 general admission, $8 students or $7 with a student activities card at the door.
