Press Releases 2007 CONTACT: Mary Planding, Director, Marketing & Communications CABRILLO COLLEGE FOUNDATION RECEIVES APTOS, CA—People remember John Morgan as one of the best English instructors to ever grace a classroom at Cabrillo College. He worked at Cabrillo from 1963 to 1983. Morgan was a devoted scholar. He loved opera and classical music and he read voraciously. Morgan had such an ardor for books that hundreds of volumes, constituting an incredible personal library, were to be found in his home. His wry sense of humor brought a certain style and class to the English department and the college. Morgan’s passion for teaching translated to students adoring him and his classes—they were always packed. Not one to boast of his accomplishments or talents, many did not know he was awarded five bronze stars for his service in World War II. Even upon his death, in his inimitable way, he graciously remembered his colleagues and institution by leaving a $150,000 endowment to the college.
John Morgan’s magnanimous gift will establish the John Morgan Faculty Grants Endowment. His generosity will help others for many years to come. Befitting his love of books and reading, his memory will live on in a student study room in the Cabrillo College Robert Swenson Library named in his honor. Cabrillo College is grateful to have such generous faculty who care so much about their college.
