RENOWNED JAZZ GUITARIST PERFORMS AT CABRILLO COLLEGE
Bruce Forman to give clinic and concert with Cabrillo Big Band Jazz
APTOS, CA—Cabrillo College Music Department presents Big Band Jazz, featuring Bruce Forman in concert, on Friday May 4th at 8 pm. Also on the 4th, Forman will give a free jazz guitar clinic at 1 pm, all on the Aptos campus.
Bruce Forman's guitar style has been an important part of the international jazz scene for more than two decades. He has been featured as leader as well as sideman at many of the most prestigious festivals and concert venues throughout the world. His numerous recording and performing credits include the likes of Bobby Hutcherson, Ray Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Barney Kessel, Richie Cole, and countless others. Known for swinging bop-style phrasing and inventive harmonizations, his performances are in constant demand. His guitar work is featured throughout Clint Eastwood's Academy Award winning film, Million Dollar Baby. Legendary guitarist Barney Kessel describes Forman as, “one of the great lights of our age."
Bruce Forman will present a free clinic on guitar improvisation at 1:00pm in room 205, located in the Theater building. The evening concert, in the Cabrillo Theater, highlights Forman playing with three of Cabrillo College’s Big Bands, directed by Jon Nordgren. The evening performance will include the music of Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Pat Metheny, and Fred Sturm, among others. Tickets at the door: $6 ($3 for SAC holders).
