Cabrillo College Class of 2007 Celebrates Commencement

APTOS, CA—Cabrillo College will honor 1,023 students a 16% increase in the number of graduates over the previous year. A formal commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 5:30 p.m., at the Carl Connelly Stadium, Cabrillo College, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, to confer their degrees and certificates.

Following the processional, Cabrillo College Vice President of Student Services Manuel Osorio will welcome participants and guests. Comments from President Brian King and Faculty Senate President Rory O’Brien will precede the presentation of the class by Vice President of Instruction Renée Kilmer. Cabrillo College Governing Board Chairperson Rachael Spencer will participate in the conferring of degrees. Rachel Mayo, Director of the Watsonville Center and Sesario Escoto, Dean of Student Affairs, will read the graduates’ names.

This year Cabrillo will award 141 A.A. degrees, 348 A.S. degrees, 66 Certificates of Proficiency, 162 Skills Certificates and 31 Certificates of Specialization. The three leading degree majors are liberal arts and sciences, business, and nursing.

The class of 2007 is comprised of graduates ranging in age from 17 to 70 years with the average age being 29. Sixty-three point three percent are females and 36.6% are males.

Fixty-two students will graduate with a perfect grade point average of 4.0, 145 students will graduate with high honors (3.75 – 3.99 GPA), 162 with honors (3.5 – 3.74 GPA) and 402 with honorable mention (3.0 – 3.49 GPA).

A reception for graduates and guests will immediately follow the ceremony in the pavilion on the stadium floor. Parking is available in lots adjacent to the stadium.

Graduates are encouraged to arrive at the gymnasium by 3:00 p.m. to be ready for the processional.
